They're one size up from what I typically wear in d.squared denim, but they should be mildly loose with a little too much on the rise. I have the chance to buy them for $500. What do you think?
I'm new to the leather pants world and don't know... anything. I work with denim (almost entirely)

Help a newcommer out.

They're tighter on him than they would be on me. I'd have some room and would need to wear a belt.

Would this look still 'work' if the pants were roomy?

Nay, don't do it. You'll wear them a few times and get a lot of attention and comments. Eventually you'll feel self-conscious and stop wearing them. IMO save your money.

You've obviously never met me.

I'm not afraid of attention, or standing out. I don't think that anyone should be.

Do you own a pair of leather pants? How do they fit?
What feedback have your received? Know anything about their value?

obviously this is the mantra of most people wearing leather pants but, unfortunately, it doesn't distract from the fact that they're wearing leather pants.

No, I don't own any. If I were to buy some, they would be for protective use while riding a motorcycle. They would be made custom and probably cost about the same or a bit more. I wouldn't wear them around just for fun. If I wanted to spend money on leather pants though (even for casual wear use), I would get them custom made from a leather goods manufacturer like Aero, who would make them to spec and stand behind their product, instead of a fashion house. But that's just me.

As for these, there may be someone here who knows whether these are a good value, but I wouldn't know who it would be. There might be another site that could help you better... honestforum maybe? If you can pull them off, more power to you.

Even though retail is probably around $1500+ on this item, I think $500 is way too much to spend on an item that would get seldomly worn (unless you are made of money).

Think about what $500 can buy on discount for other items...

They look good, there's no denying it. Personally, I would be far too self-conscious to wear them, and they would stand out so much that repeat wearings would only make me more aware. "There's that guy in the leather pants again" would be the phrase going through my mind.
But that's me.
You say you don't mind standing out. That's great; that's one hurdle passed. Next you should determine whether you will want to wear them often enough to warrant the price tag. Your own financial situation is the issue here.

If I ever saw you wearing them, as long as they fit alright and were part of a nice outfit, I would have a favourable opinion, for what it's worth.

Also, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, will you even want to wear them before next winter?

No

I'd even say that his fit is borderline too loose in the thighs. Looser than that and I think any sleekness that the leather pants may provide is going to be offset by the poor fit.

Thanks guys. This is exacly the kind of feedback that i'm looking for.

I have a pair of d.squared denim in the same size - i really like how the legs fit, but the waist is too large. In the end, I don't think I'll pull the trigger here - but I appreciate the feedback!

I hate to throw out cliche's, but in this case it is true - no leather pants unless you are fronting a rock band.
