I need your help, gentlemen. I have fallen in love with the shoe in this image that I scanned of an old GQ mag layout. In all likelihood, it’s a Ralph Lauren Marlow that’s been photographed in misleading light – and therein lies the problem. I much prefer the mid-brown color of the shoe in the attached image over the true color of the RL Marlow.

Does anyone happen to know where I can find a VERY similar shortwing blucher that is darker than, say, this tan Alden shortwing but not yet as dark as either the Marlow or this chocolate Carmina Fitzgerald?

Marlows have 5 eyelets, whereas those only have 4. The washed-out color in the pic (as it appears on my monitor) sorta reminds me of Alden's Natural Chromexel. Btw, RL's Dark Brown shell will lighten over time:
3 1/2 year old Darlton next to a brand new Marlow. Flash kind of lightens everything but you get the idea.

Twas blown away when I saw how these lightened up
Fwiw, you can speed up the process by leaving your shoes out in the sun or by a window as often as you can. Just make sure to condition them often. (Not really useful if you want a light brown shoe now.)

Good eye, WB. I hadn't noticed that before, but now that you've pointed it out I like the shoes in the image even more than I already did. I can't find them on the RL website, though, which seems strange because the issue of GQ that this came from is less than a year old (I think).

I had no idea they could lighten up that much. Good to know.

I can think of the C&J Cardiff. Too light still?

Yes, those are a little too light, and alas, not my size.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those are nice, but they're bals, not bluchers.

They might not be RL shoes at all. Perhaps an editorial spread error?
