You want an odd blue jacket instead of a blazer so the brown horn or other colours that others have suggested will certainly accomplish this task while eliminating any sense that you are wearing a suit jacket. I like the MOP too. I have a couple of suits with them. I'd be interested to hear what others think regarding their appropriateness for an odd jacket.

A blazer without metal buttons is an odd jacket not a blazer. And and odd jacket should not be navy blue as the navy blue odd jacket is a bazer with metal buttons. If you really dislike gold (why?) go for copper or brass, or something called cow gold (black polish over gold). The blazer is a classic. Don't mess with it.

I completely disagree. An odd navy sportcoat with horn or MOP buttons is a classic and foundational piece in any wardrobe. It goes with virtually everything and will always remain in style. The same could be said for blazers, but those gold buttons remind me too much that the wearer is a member of a yacht club.

The blazer itself is a result of the tasteful tweaking of "classic" pieces in its day. If nothing ever evolved for a modern sensibility we'd still be wearing codpieces.

The truth about navy blazer is it will look good with any buttons unless they are in stupid colors like pink ! I have one with dark horn button , one with matching blue button (corduroy) and one with gold button. And I love all of them.

If it does not have hold buttons it is not a blazer, and not a foundational element of men's wardrobe. It is a piece of fashion which will go the way of other abominations like bell bottom trousers.

I think people are better off enjoying the piece of clothing (the jacket itself) than let some rule about the buttons dictate what it should or shouldn't be.
Just care about it being a navy jacket/blazer/coat and move on.
