Kai, British car shows have a habit of duffing up circuit runs. "Top Gear" got an Rx8 and a 350Z around the track in the same time as a BMW M3. "Driven" raced a Honda Civic type R against an S2000 around a race track and managed to get the Civic over the line first. Hopeless. Do you own a Viper? They really don't make sense over in Blighty, especially considering the existence of TVR and Morgan.
I agree. Top Gear can be a bit funny with their test drives. On one Top Gear show, I saw a stock Acura NSX beat a C6 Corvette in a 1/4 mile drag race. That's just not likely to happen in real life if the Vette driver knows how to drive at all. Yes, I own a Viper. Having driven it in the rain, I'm actually pretty impressed by the Top Gear lap time (on a very very wet track.) The Viper's time on the wet track was actually a half second faster than their test of the Lambo Murcielago on a wet track, which is pretty good, considering the Lambo has AWD. I just hope they have a chance to test the Viper again in the dry, as a Viper is definitely not at its best in foul weather. A Viper is lots of fun when it's dry, however, especially on the twisty mountain roads near my home. Unfortunately, winter has arrived in Colorado, so the days of top-down cruising in the mountains are over for a while. As for TVRs and Morgans, they are nice cars. I've heard horror stories about TVR's reliability, however. If I were going to buy a specialty sports car from the UK, I'd get either a Lotus Elise or a Noble M12.
