I have a friend who had suede patches put on a few sweaters. It looks nice.

Yeah, I was thinking that was my only option. I'm open to giving it a shot (my usual re-weaver is actually quite good), but wanted to know if there were other options. I'll likely be done wearing it for the summer here at the end of the month, so I have time to think it over.

I have Cucinelli sweater with light tan suede patches. The sweater is pretty lightweight as well. I think it looks great. It is a nice visual detail. Go for it.

Figure this is the best place for this...

After four years or so of regular wear, one of my Loro Piana Roadster pullovers has begun to give at the elbows. (I'll pause for people to get over the initial "wearing knitwear with zippers is heresy" response.) My normal reaction to a hole or snag would be to see a re-weaver. However, since this is due to wear at the elbow and is considerably larger than a moth hole, I wasn't sure what the options were--there is considerable thinning in a patch about the size of a silver dollar. I have put suede patches on the elbows of sport coats in the past, but that seems really stupid and awkward on a two-ply cashmere sweater.

So, any experience or advice in this arena...?

^Yeah that's my main concern. I have a few spares lying around my closet somewhere for if a blow-out were to happen. But I think they are all on the heavier side.

I assume a re-weaver is the best person to speak with about adding elbow patches to a sweater? A tailor seems like the wrong resource...

Another option if you are hesitant about suede or leather elbow patches - but which would require a little more work/thinking is to add patches in a different wool or cashmere knit like this :

Give me a year, and I may be able to give you two flaps of corduroy you can use for your sweater's elbows.

This is really cool. It would certainly take some doing, as I'd need to add cashmere patches in all likelihood. I'd also likely need to do charcoal grey to compliment the weave...

Any insight on where to find scraps of cashmere (aside from the obvious solution of mauling an existing sweater)?

You could just buy a small length off of the net and have your tailor cut the patches to size.

Thinking about dropping an email to Lockie about possibly buying a length. Any other places you know of that I can buy a short length from? Google has been less than fruitful.

There's a pretty large fabric store near me that I think I'm going to try at some point. I emailed Lockie but I assume they will be less than excited (or willing) to send me a small amount of material...

Just tell them you want to order a custom sweater, and would like to see 15 swatches of the same mid-grey cashmere fabric.
