I got to the tailor, shirts ended up wrong, drove home, took the two samples that I had done at the same shop (different tailor) that are pretty much perfect for me, and will be waiting another week (Friday if I have "Good Friday" off)
I asked them to kindly redo all the shirts and just follow the two respective samples (1 is based on a slim fit, the other is regular fit)

The owner declined my offer when asked to pay more for all the trouble, just as long as I am happy.

I hope 3rd time is a charm.

I don't know how the hell I didn't notice when trying it on, but on my new MTM blazer there's a thread and a NEEDLE hanging from the seam where the sleeve lining meets the bodice lining at the armhole, and the seam is unfinished. WTF.

I'm gonna have to pay this man extra money so he doesn't do things in a rush. He must have gone to do other things, pick up the phone or whatever, then forgot about my jacket. Well at least now I'm sure he sets the sleeves by hand when doing alterations

Maybe he's subconsciously trying to give you some homework so as teach you how to make your jacket yourself, given all the detailed instructions you're having to give him to get the shoulder expression & cut that you're after...

Peacoat alterations experiment has been done for a while, but just got it back on the 14th or so. Still needs to go out to the cleaners before the success of the project can be judged.

He's indeed a bit lazy and when the coats have obvious issues like balance problems he will "not see" them and just tell you "oooooh, it fits great". That works with most clients because they don't have a clue. He perfectly knows how to fix stuff and change things, but you have to point it out to him. I try to live with it because he's very cheap and though I have to struggle, in the end it looks like I can get what I want. I guess one gets what he pays for

That feeling when you go to the tailor and feel elated that your shirts are finally (after 2 trials) done to your specifications and fit perfectly.

More so, seeing your old seamstress as only she seemed to be able to do the job right.



Dropped off a cotton/linen jacket to slim the sleeves and another jacket to see if opening back the double vent is a good idea.

Anyone smart know how we lowly Americans can watch this? I think last time we had to wait for someone to upload The Perfect Suit ...

I think I want a cafe racer.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about casual party/wedding ties. I have several weddings coming up this spring/summer and would like to pick up a couple of ties for the events. All of my ties right now are quite soporific (as I'm generally only wearing ties for business or more formal events). However, for fun events like weddings or reunions, I'm curious to know thoughts and options. I'm thinking something vibrant enough to stand out, yet still in good taste.

As of now I'm having a moment with floral ties...





Anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions? I don't want to look like a clown, but I plan on pairing the ties with solid navy or mid-grey fresco suits, so I think there is room to be playful.

I don't like the first two, but I could see the last one working with a tan cotton or linen suit. Not navy or grey.

Would you wear a floral pocket square as well?

lulz. No floral pocket square. In fact, these days I wear a white linen square 99% of the time. I think it makes for a cleaner look and completely removes the concerns surrounding "square fail." I'll only wear a patterned square if the rest of the combinations are incredibly (and I mean INCREDIBLY) sedate or monochromatic. Accordingly, any "fun" tie will be grounded by a white square and dark(er) suit.

So, D, if you're not a fan of the above, do you have any suggestions for non-soporific options? If this spawns a PTO post, I'll only charge my customary 15% of ad revenue

Floral ties can be great fun with linen, cotton or even lightweight wool suits (out the the three examples above, the top one is easily my favourite), but I think for daytime events, they need to have a moderately "dry" finish rather than a shiny look. Also, they benefit a lot in terms of ease of matching to, for example, a white shirt or light-coloured jackets, if they have some white in them (e.g. the flowers). I do have a more shiny pink floral tie that works quite well for smart-ish summer events, but more so if it's in the evening.

Also consider pastel ties with white stripes and other similarly celebratory & summery colours. A seersucker tie would be an extreme relaxed variant of that concept. For a more conservative/sober choice, solid-colour shantungs or linen ties can also lend a chilled out summery smart vibe.
