I just got a pair of workadays about a month ago and they are pretty slim... I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with the fit if you want something more trim. I bought them with the plan they'd fit big, especially in the hem - but they are pretty skinny but work well.

Can I get you to post a pic because I know you have all of that wonderful camera equipment?

@eluther I think RRL jeans goes well with EG. Unfortunately don't own any myself but from what i've seen they match EG well. And ofcourse you'll get them in different fits.

I usually wear eg with apc ns or apc hipster (love the fit and fades)
if I'm looking for a looser fit I'll do it with non-denim pants (I dont like to wear loose fitting jeans)

i wear uniqlos with my bedford and think it looks ok. these are slightly looser in the top block than my apcs, which helps to balance out the short, boxy jacket shape

So would you guys say bottoms that work well with EG tops are generally roomier in the top block? How about tapered vs. regular-straight vs. slim-straight?

I general, I would say that a roomier top block prevents the A-shaped silhouette of most EG tops from giving you a coniferous tree shape.

More specifically, I think it depends on your build – and how you wear EG. My short answer is that if you live somewhere you can wear jackets, it's more much forgiving. However, living in Phoenix, I get to wear a shirt and a pair of pants and that's it. Not being able to hide the interplay between the shirt's hem and the top block of the pants makes that a lot more difficult. I had a pair of 3sixteen STs that were a size up and they were all right, but increasingly I wanted something a little bit more 501-ish to counter balance the volume on the top. So, for me, something what HelloFello and robinsongreen68 are wearing is great.

If you're on the thinner side, there are certain EG shirts (western, tab collar) that you could get away with wearing tapered pants, but largely I think it's a sub-optimal choice.

HelloFello and robinsongreen68 look great - agreed!

I'm 5'6" short with broad shoulders. Fit is medium in EG tops but 30/small in bottoms.

I've picked up a couple pieces this season (striped henley, black batik baker, navy ghurka, olive aviator, newport plaid workshirt, striped chambray workshirt).

Figuring out how to wear these is confusing. Same with clothes in general, actually, ahah! I find my tops fit well in the shoulders but approach shirt-dress lengths at the hem and sleeves, and I probably look pretty top-heavy in my outfits. Maybe I should resign myself to walking around with my hands always in my pockets to let the hems rest on my arms for the rest of my life hahah!

I'll post a fitpic soon. Thanks for your reply eluther!

well said, totally depends on your frame and how you like to wear it

I'm a short guy so I dont like to go too loose with eg, usually I stick to slim strait or regular strait bottoms, but I do like to wear some looser pants with cinch hems or tucked

I can work with most A shape jackets but I dont wear any eg shirts as sadly small fits a bit long/boxy/baggy and xs has t-rex sleeves

I'm the same height and have a muscular frame with some drop in the torso, currently shifting from xs to s and already feel I look a bit top heavy for my height, I'm constantly dealing with the issue of balancing my frame width with my height so I know what you're talking about, sadly for us short guys being too swole is counter productive to our visual proportions (specifically it just makes us look shorter)

so... what are birkenkloggs?

Birkenstock Bostons. They are clogs or mules or whatever you want to call them.

Also to weigh in on the jeans topic, I have a pair of LVC 1955 501s and they look great with EG. Wide thigh and slight but not to restricting taper. I think the 1954 and the 1966 cut 501s are a bit too slim to work with EG but people of different proportions may get them to work.
