@Holdfast & Nii: I appreciate your input here as well as the additions of your own pics. I think you guys missed the fact that ordiginally I dusted off those old pics to help kick-start discussion elsewhere (I knew what would be said) which then gave me the idea for this thread. But again, I intended this thread to be a safe haven for those who perhaps shied away from posting due to some of the harsh critique elsewhere, etc. We can do that in many other threads.

Thanks again.

@PTWilliams. C'mon, I'm sure you can find something to post in here smile.gif

Definitely agreed. I find it hard too, but actually really like the idea of them. Manton did a nice light tie look (some kind of medium-sized spot on cream or yellow, I think) in one of the recent threads. I think light ties have to either be the only light item in a sober (but tonally appropriate) look, or (if cream) match a suit or jacket very closely for a very specific type of summery look.

i think there is space for all to co-exist which explains why there are some posters; myself included; who have posted both here and in the good taste thread, as well as the CBD thread.

thanks for taking the time to provide the great feedback across the board holdfast.

let's keep it going ...

Concur on all points, and thank you. For most people in the modern world, we can theoretically dress in a range of different ways depending on the day, because dress codes have evaporated. Choosing your aim for the day is therefore really crucial; "what effect do I want to create today"?

It can be argued that this is a more traditionally female approach to dressing. I'd actually agree. But I do find it more relevant to my life than adopting the tradtional male approach to dressing (everything relatively interchangeable for a series of moderately conservative, and always acceptable looks). So I don't think there's a problem dressing this way.

You've really plundered the archives for these! I know you'd never dress like this now, so I feel free to unleash a bit. ;)

#1 is OK, but I find the tie and suit too close

#2, #5, #8 are neither peacock nor conservative, but really horrid amalgams of the two.

The square kills #4, #6, #7 completely. I personally dislike those zippered sweaters under jackets too.

#3 is a milder version of #2/5/8's problems, but a more casual shirt might help matters a bit.

Today's look fits the peacock category due to the tie and square I think, despite not being particularly bright otherwise:

Moo - the ties in 2 and 8 could raise folks from the dead. Lol
Spoo - great post. Your development is there for all to see.
Holdfast - I am having a bonfire party tonight. Please send me that tie biggrin.gif

My humble opinion.

well said.

Im older now, have a different responsibility at work, have a kid and have learned a lot. I learned a little bit of restraint, which is not a bad thing (though probably blasphemy in the Peacock thread lol). I used to get the most "interesting" pieces in every item I purchased - loud ties, loud jackets, loud pants, loud shoes, etc. The effect, while visually jarring (thus, a successful peacock), was discordant.
This brings me to a point which I have been thinking about for the past few days - I "TITFD (Toned It The Fuck Down) on suggestion of Manton and a lot of others, who had told me when those looks were current, that it was just too much. I looked at the CBD thread, and said "Damn, this ish right here is kind of boring, thats not me, why should I listen to these guys?" But, I keep a very open mind, so I tried it. And those looks were much better received, both IRL and here. So I thought, hmmm. How can we compromise? Whats the best way to retain my personal (flashy) style and preference, while incorporating the "rules" of whats proper, classic, and timeless?
Step one for me was to eliminate most of the high intensity jackets and pants in my wardrobe. I found that if I kept my ties that had more visual effect, as well as the squares, I could still have the visual impact that I wanted, yet by grounding them with solid, classic essentials like a navy blazer suit, glen plaid suit, charcoal suit and tan suit, the books would balance at the end of the day. I think that its worked out well for me, as I still can peacock a little, but Ive learned so much from the quiet elements of CBD that they don't look as costumey as they used to.

Really educational comments Spoo, thanks. As a noob to a nice wardrobe, but certainly not to life, the personal progession details are helpful.
