12:4pm GMT - BON signs in, as threatened (first in a series)

I've a thought or two regarding the CBD discussion. Technically, I've all the tools for what I perceive as British CBD, which is to say, a number of pinstriped suits and plain suits, plain and contrast collared shirts, a few plain ties and black Oxfords. Indeed, I wore that stuff when I did my tour of duty in the City of London for years and I was never criticised for inappropriateness. If anything, like us all, I was mostly surrounded by people that did not care about propriety in business dress. The City in general is only two steps beyond those guidos roaming Wall and Broad, these days

If anything, I struggle far more with streetwear - and I'm a guy who's genuinely interested by street and runway fashion to varying degrees

And so, to the photographs. If you can see me ageing as I scroll down, that would be because I'm beginning with 2008 and ending with British "summer" 2009. I will also be perverse and demonstrate sober outfits with small dashes of peacockery:

So far, it appears that I used to wear bow ties more often, had slightly more baroque tendencies at times and should never have donated that cream Uniqlo jacket. Next up: late 2009 - 2010

In the autumn of 2009, as my social skills began to improve, people of varying degrees of professionalism started to take my portraits. Also, I began to cut my hair on a more regular basis. I even began to meet girls:

In early 2010, I moved to Ghana, where things tend to get more tropical. And dictatorial. And hairy:

In your Ghana pics you look like you trying to take over the country and make the Black Star all your own!  Love the pics, thanks for sharing.

In terms of aesthetic theory, I would agree. In practice, I'm not sure it's consistently possible for everyone to separate out personal preference in terms of "outfit intent" & intended audience from appreciation of a well-put together outfit. Having a couple of threads has some practical benefits of preventing pointless argumentation around those aspects, and keeps threads more on topic. But I wholeheartedly support a critical-but-encouraging approach to the outfits in this thread. "Anything goes" is certainly not what I like to see!

Picked out these are my faves, but may I just say it's great to see them posted chronologically, as it gives a real feel for how your style & tastes have evolved. Great stuff; can't wait for more! icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Not peacocking today, though on the cusp with a pale linen suit and fuschia square.

In late 2010, I fled from Ghana for a sojourn in Hong Kong. This more or less brought the year to a close

Overwhelmed by my return to the city of my birth, I spent 2011 experimenting wildly with psychotropic shirts. Fatefully, Spoo had sold me a pair of cuban heeled John Lobbs from 1973 that decided a number of my looks from then on, as I suddenly began to source a number of complementary pieces, particularly one man's period wardrobe that could have made a decent penny at auction:

And so, we finally land in this year, wherein I seem to have rediscovered my taste for suiting over odds and sods. This remains a situation that can only be remedied by the services of a skilled bespoke trouser maker. And a psychologist. I also continue as a subject of professional photographers, but am allowed to choose my own clothes. This may be to their regret

This batch includes two very different, yet equally traditional modes of formal dress that reflect both sides of my heritage, and ends with the promised off-white suit/yellow shirt combination. I am still editing the photograph with the golden gun in it:

Thank-you, Barims, for confirming my belief in you! And it's even more interesting to see the considerable progress in your looks over the last four years. You have, as you say, started to manage to integrate not just two but three ostensibly very diverse influences (classic English gentlemanly forms, a Ghanaian / West African approach to colour and pattern, and 60s-influenced street style) and with considerable aplomb, with the result that what you wear is not costume, because it isn't a copy of anything exactly, but is a style all of your own - and probably almost inimitable. This is what a really successful peacock looks like, gentlemen.
