If you do not own the following things, you are not well dressed - Page 29

-a blue odd jacket. If you live in a two-season climate, then two, one for warmth and one for the cold Yes, I have 3
-mid gray flannel pants Yes, several pairs as I recall.
-decent, non-chino khakis Does Incotex/Mabitex cover this? If so, yup...plenty
-at least one funky (but tasteful!) non-blue tweed jacket Yes indeed!
-a mid to dark gray worsted single-breasted suit I probably have at least 3 in various shades from Charcoal to light gray
-a navy worsted single breasted suit Same here as for gray. 2 or 3 in navy to kinda dark blue and few in medium blue...
-a white FC shirt 4 or 5 of these
-several blue BC shirts, at least one BD 5 - 10
-black stitch caps Yes! Black shoes don't seem to get much love on SF but I wear mine at least once a week.
-some tasteful brown oxfords (exact configuration up to you) Lots of brown shoes in lots of different shades! SF approved I'm sure...
-loafers in medium brown calf, suede or shell or else burg shell Yes, but no shell or burgundy loafers...yuck
-a solid black tie, knit or grenadine Yes
-a solid navy tie, knit or grenadine Yes, knit Also a brown silk knit as well.
-a plain white linen hanky tons...

For the "more advanced" players:
-at least one DB suit, navy worsted or medium gray flannel (the best dressers will have both) Navy and birds eye both RLBL
-at least one linen suit Yes, but how about cotton? I've got a handsome tan/khaki single breasted Also, why no mention of seeksucker? A player's got to have some seersucker!
-at least one pair of brown suede shoes several and a pair of chuukas from Magnanni that I adore!
-at least one formal tie, e.g., a B&W shepherd's check No....no need.
-at least one wool or cashmere tie Yes, wool and woo/cashmere blend.
-at least one linen or linen blend tie Yes, several..

If necessary
-A complete, well-fitting, correct black tie rig, including shoes Nope
-An overcoat in navy, charcoal or camel Camel is my favorite but I also have a handsome brown herringbone. No love for the duffle and what well dressed man doesn't have a good raincoat. My preference is the Mac!

Ooops, I meant to type "What, no love for the Duffle"?

manton, what shade of blue would you say is optimal for the blue blazer, especially if person is only going to have one.

a pic would be really great if possible.

I know you asked Manton, but I like to see blazers in the middle of the navy spectrum. Super-dark navy somehow looks out of place in an odd jacket.

EDIT: Like this

I do like blazers in the middle of the navy spectrum, with a bare hint of purple. Not ideal for a blazer suit, though

this maybe a dumb question, although i wrote "blazer" i really meant blue SC/odd jacket. the first item in your list. i wasnt careful enough while typing. would the "mid navy" answer be the same?

as for a blue SB suit, would the first one to get be of a similar color? i would lean towards a darker navy for the staple blue suit. would that be correct?

SB - thanks for the pic. that was the color i had in mind btw.

your blue odd jacekt can be a blazer strictly speaking but it does not have to be. As long as it functions like a blazer, it is fine.

yeah, blue suits can be darker than jackets. It's not a necessity but it's nice. I will say that a suit on the lighter side of navy looks better than a midnight jacket. It's OK to make your suit a bit light but don't make your jacket too dark

Why no mention of the required raincoat? Seems like an essential item of the well dressed man's wardrobe. As previously stated, my preference is the Mac in black or navy.

ok, thanks. i personally prefer an odd jacket to a blazer. i dont love the metal buttons.

I suppose a rain coat is essential. I much prefer the longer ones, though, mid-calf.

i have a great raincoat. its a necessity in bmore. super non SF approved, but thoroughly awesome. its a thick plastic so its light and you dont get to sweaty, which is essential because its often very hot and humid when it rains here. and the coat goes all the way to the ground, and has closures, so no part of my pants gets wet. my crease is 100% safe.

fashionable, no. extremely functional, yes.

Blasphemy. You'd look great in a blazer.

Some regions don't really require a raincoat.

+1,000,000. Let me get back over to the non-rules rules thread...

I have been thinking about this thread a lot lately, and a previous thread about your own personal top ten items.

So today I am wearing:
A mid-blue, 1/4 lined odd sport coat (-a blue odd jacket. If you live in a two-season climate, then two, one for warmth and one for the cold_
Mid Gray four season trousers (too hot for flannel but...-mid gray flannel pants)
Light blue medium spread collar BC shirt (-several blue BC shirts, at least one BD)
Brown suede oxfords with a perforated cap toe (-some tasteful brown oxfords)

And a linen tie, pale gray with off-white dots (For the "more advanced" players: -at least one linen or linen blend tie)
