You're right, I take that back, it looks like a shallow chest from that photograph. So it has chest shape, but only a discreet one. That could be due to NSM's judgment of what suits you better or just their house style. However, in my opinion and judging by what you've provided us, it brings attention to your hips and the unbalanced wide lapels just emphasizes this effect, by making your chest look smaller.

I have approx. a 10-inch drop, and have found that the less artificial (I.e. less rigid / less thick) canvassing works better for me, as stiffer interfacing just exaggerates my chest and makes my top half look ridiculous.

Personally I find nipped waists more attractive. I've seen straight-looking jackets with little suppression, and it looks very dowdy. It works for some, but not for me.

The "large hips" comment makes me laugh, though, as they are typical of what can be expected on the Internet. I'm 150 lbs, and far from what could be classified as "hippy."

Oh boy... Wide hipped is not a synonymous to fat and your weight has little to do with it, as it's a bone, google it. And I's referring to the coat, not to your body. I'm sorry if I offended you, it wasn't my intention.

About chest shaping, a bit of insight might be helpful here, as well. Canvassing is not the only factor responsible for chest shape, a lot of iron work goes into it, the cloth, the sewing and the cutting itself. Also, many draped chests are achieved by the use of light canvassing. While we're only looking at photograph at the internet, as you love to remind us, your chest does look smaller than your hips, so you could rethink your "no chest enhancement" policy.

best thing for him to do is lift weights to correct for that. garment shaping will only do so much. as having met him in person, he's not a big guy, and any features of "hippy"ness seen here are simply accentuated by the camera.

Victor, are you saying I'm big-boned?

Excellent fit and fabric.  May I ask which maker to compliment?

Here is a much heavier flannel fabric, which has the same amount of lining.

Personally, I prefer larger lapels (about 4) as it reaches the halfway point to the edge of my shoulders (need to stop those lateral raises). I do have a jacket that goes halfway to the edge of my chest (where the seam of the arm begins) and it looks to small to my eye. Your preference may differ.

VE, you do have certainty, don't you? I know many here find you irritatingly pedantic, but don't let them get you down. You just keep on truckin', hoss.

This is not the fit critique thread. I don't have the time, inclination, nor a professional photographer on staff to take static poses that show my clothes without a ripple. All the pics of myself will be taken by me with a bent arm and hence the jacket askew. Please pay attention to the color and fabric combinations, which is the point.

Post #6 in this thread, by the thread starter.

I love UC's combination. I deplore the nitpicking over the fit.
