whnay.'s good taste thread - Page 582

This is a complicated tie, goodluck! Using color theory I would say the tie follows a tetrad color scheme or an accented analogic schemes. These schemes are a hell to balance right.

For the tetrad scheme you need these colors: Blue-green, blue-violet, yellow-orange, red-orange. The contrast between all the items will be created by either warm or cold colors. Wich will be a bit of an hassle.

For  the accented analogic shemes you need these:  Blue-green, blue-violet, yellow-orange, red-purple. In this scheme, yellow orange is the only accent.

The colors in the shirt and suit are blue, and would only work if the tie was lacking the yellow-orange stripe. Try to find a way to introduce all four of these colors into your combination, and the problem with the tie will most likely go away :)

No, it's not to hand, but I believe it's a Cantini.

EDIT: I just saw this:

This solidifies my resistance to wearing a blue shirt with that tie. I am interested in hearing others' thoughts, though.

Here is the original with just the PS.  Although the creme doesn't work with the white shirt now I actually think something like this with a little yellow/gold could help the tie "blend" a little.  However, I seem to remember you don't like pocket squares beyond white linen.

You must be thinking of someone else. I rarely wear white linen.

I want to understand this. But I don't.

I don't care for ecru/cream shirts. Fine for others, but not for me.

id love to DTO that fit.

That pic is reposted often on this forum despite the lack of pattern or color that 'pops'.

It starts with a classic look and makes everything a notch or two more casual: Air force blue (or similar) instead of navy, monks instead of oxfords, knit tie, button down collar. Something to be learned there.

If I DTOed that fit, it would be easy to fail. Using my closet: navy worsted, black oxfords, white BC or FC, black knit. Fail. Frustrated I'd swap out the tie for one that 'pops' then post it in WAYWRN for reassurance.
