Guys, as spring approaches, what is considered good taste in neckwear? I am assuming wool is seasonally inappropriate for summer, that's a gimme. I would guess linen and silk are the preferred fabrics. What about cotton? What colors are more appropriate in summer?

I've got some great fabrics that I'll post for you in a bit

you're on the right track with those fabrics, then basically any color is OK, with a preference for ligher and/or pastels. Earth tones, avoid if possible.

That shirt and tie combination could be me. I would prefer something a little more tweedy for the sportcoat. Or at least less muted dark.

The pattern looks identical to a Sak's house brand shirt I have.

it's a very common pattern. That strip in blue, gray, red and pink are stock oxfords. Sometimes you even see other colors. e.g., yellow and green.

Do you mind elaborating on your thinking behind discouraging earth tones in summer? Brown grenadine is a workhorse tie for me.

The classic mode of dressing calls for fabric colors to evoke the colors of the wearer's surroundings. Blue and grays tend to be appropriate for the city. Fall/winter country clothes mimic the brown, rust, green, etc. of the countryside. The spring and summer tend to have brighter colors in blooming plants and flowers.

There are obviously earth tones in the spring and summer, but the deeper and darker colors are a bit more associated with the fall.
