I wonder if the effect here isn't more flash than you intended. The DB blazer, the double cuffs, the contrasting square, the light brown shoes. Lot going on, at least for this thread.

Probably so, because I tried to be rather sober (blue blazer, grey trousers, quiet tie). Hank was a choice of either white linen or cream silk for that goal, and I thought white linen would be even more contrasting - I was wrong. I ended up removing the hank during the day. Had to try foo.gif's cream silk to realize I don't really like it that much, just like any other solid silk hanks...

 

I dislike very dark brown shoes (which were my only alternative option) with such light grey trousers, but I agree that this shade of brown is perhaps a bit too flashy, too saturated. Thinking of some med brown suede as my next purchase...

I don't think charcoal works with anything else than black shoes. Also, though it might be the photo quality, I don't think there's enough contrast between the jacket and pants.
