In answer to the question, this is what you wear when you meet Tom Wolfe for lunch. Suit = wool fresco, shirt = linen cotton, tie = pure linen, square = silk, socks = cotton lisle, shoes = calf.

I'm sure the shoes have tremendous sentimental value... uhoh.gif

Really nice outfit though icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

very old pair of bespoke shoes (15 yrs or so) nothing wrong with them. "Lived in" you might say.

What did Mr. Wolfe wear?

Must be the flash then. They look pretty beat on the pic and even slightly deformed in places.

Now where can I find this tie?

I saw some nice linen ties in Rome. I bought one (striped) and will check on the shop name (I know it is on the tie) later. The manufacturer was Kiton under their second label, which I will also check for you.

white suite (one button SB notch, but big-ass lapels), B&W striped BD, solid royal blue tie, white hank with blue border, and one white shoe (his other foot was in some kind of brace, exercise accident).

Sounds awful, but he does have a brand.

#1 is pretty good. My only complaint is that the cream motif in the square is slightly repetitive of the white dots in the tie--not because they are both the same-shaped motif, but because they are both dotted (even if not both actual dots).

#2 through #4 I don't like. #2 and #3 suffer from having pocket squares matched to closely to their shirts. The tie in #2 also clashes with the shirt--too close in saturation. I mostly blame the shirt. That slightly darker blue is hard to wear. I don;t like the square in #4--again repeating the dotting in the tie.

#5 is okay. Though I'd prefer to see something other than a plain white linen square. If you want to keep the square, I'd swap in a blue-on-white patterned shirt.

Interesting thoughts. I'm not sure I agree in all cases, but certainly some things to mull. Specifically on #4, the square is actually POW in cream and brown, not dots. Given the bokeh, though, I can see why you said that.

I've worn the same combination, only inside-out, or upside down, or maybe sideways:

Did you think my outfits were that bad? Interested in your feedback. Probably too much color--though I think I am less elaborately colorful than many, if not most.

General remark: I find your suiting choices to be your best asset, both in term of depth of colour and providing the right texture for what your say your goals are, that is harmony of texture, colours, patterns and proportions, not just the last three like a lot of MC posters who forget about texture and its relationship to both harmony and formality. Some of the shapes show your personal quirks –like huge DB collars- which I like because the rest of the outfits don’t aim for eccentricity. However I cannot condone the contrasting buttonholes though; it’s like someone wants to telegraph they’re handmade, something I’d expect from Boateng.

1) PS is like a random flash of red for no reason, big no. Tie is also too metallic for a look that seems softer and less in your face urban-powersuit.
2) Everything is terrific there, I can even go with the square. You have subtle and not so subtle pattern but nothing too similar and the whole manages to be interesting even though everything is very much by the book when taken separately.
3) Dunno why the square is there, woulda been cool with white linen. Because your suit and dress shirt blend in a little too much the tie is a big sign pointing out to your love of two button, high collars (something I associate with Italians). Not sure how it looks when you’re viewed normally but it is not shocking in a closeup.
4) Ditch the tie and put on a rep tie with some sort of red that doesn’t match the square and you’re golden.
5) Perfect. Tie is more discrete so the high neck is invisible.
6) Depends on really on what precise colour everything is, I hope the pattern of the tie isn’t the same shade as the shirt and the ps is also a diff colour than the tie but that everything is close enough to work, can’t say.
7)Can’t really comment on this one (suit fabric is terrific though) as those square pattern (check?) shirts remind me of sketch pads.
