i think it looks fantastic.

I like the tie too. It looks similar to this one: http://www.kentwang.com/grenadine-steel-blue.html

It's also the brightest and shiniest element of an otherwise muted ensemble, which serves to draw the eye to the most dandified detail. This sort of pairing is common on SF, but putting such a focus on the square detracts from the cohesiveness of the whole.

There's a disconnect between SF's dogma about soporific ties and its taste for exuberant pocket foliage.

I really gotta figure out a better way to take pictures. Would love to get some feedback on today's fit, but I just could not get good pics this morning--either the jacket or the shirt was totally washed out.

Suppose I will have to break down and setup the tripod and use a real camera...

BTW, lots of nice fits today, keep it up.

Okay, we need to get this thread back on track. I'm instituting a scoring system.

foo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.gif: Exceptionally tasteful and inspired, not to be emulated out of respect.
foo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.gif: In solid good taste and without error, worthy of emulation.
foo.giffoo.giffoo.gif: Unoffensive and technically correct, but nothing more.
foo.giffoo.gif: A mixed bag with one or two significant mistakes or several minor ones.
foo.gif: More wrong than right, should be lit on fire.
-- : Not enough right to meaningfully critique, viscerally offensive.

Judges are the original arbitrators intended at the thread's inception: Manton, gdl, iammatt, whnay, Doc, Dopey, myself. Vox, if he's out there. That's not a fully comprehensive list; I'm sure I'm forgetting people. Since Manton is OP, if he wants to add anyone, he can do so unilaterally. Otherwise, new judges can be added by majority vote, with Manton as tie-breaker in the case of a split.

I quit.

Someone should sticky a list of tasteful dress principles and record which combinations are awarded foo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.gif, foo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.gif, etc.

Person probably only has to update the sticky once every year, given the likelihood those candies are awarded.

I endorse this proposal.

I expect most outfits will score foo.giffoo.gif.

A foo.giffoo.giffoo.gif outfit will aspirational for most.

foo.giffoo.giffoo.giffoo.gif will be rare.

I think this could really work well. Will be important to get as many ratings as possible from the aforementioned judges though.

Would also be nice to somehow archive the 4 and 5 foo.gif submissions, if only for instructional purposes.

I thought grade-inflation is the norm in US colleges these days.
