EDIT: Uploaded photo with corrected colors.

I like this one, foo. Dots on the tie and checks on the shirt are nicely balanced. My only small quibble is that the dots on the tie look orangish which are a little to matchy with the square. And I probably wouldn't want orange dots on the tie in any circumstance. But I could just be seeing the picture wrong.

What's the fabric on the suit?

Foo-- who makes these shirts? Like the collars; are they two-button?

The dots are actually gold. Much closer to yellow than orange. My favorite tie right now.

The suit cloth is discontinued Woodhouse fresco.

Anna Matuozzo. All two-button.

Is it the angle of the photo or are those lapels covering all of your chest? They appear to be really huge.

They are classically big. smile.gif

 Square is a bit much.

Ooops - belt is not U.S.

How do you like Chipp? Is he still cutting? That's as classic as it gets.

Ah, ok, I do like that better on the tie. I was going to say, it looks like fresco, but not quite like the Minnis stuff I have seen. Do you have your AM shirts done with unfused collars?

Really? I don't think so. Foo, lets see it with a non-blue tie.

More brown in town

I just re-uploaded the photo with more true-to-life colors. The suit is blue, but not as saturated as it was showing up. It is more of a slate, washed denim blue. The tie is darker and inkier, more midnight than navy. The square is cream and gold, not white at all.

Later maybe. Don't like the tie?

Thread Starter
CEP@305: the linked pic (which you may as well have posted) is very good. I don’t love the spotted square but the color is perfect.

Gazman-hendrix debate: I’m not going to let this thread lapse into relativism or into an endless circular debate “who’s to say what’s good taste?” The premise of the thread is that there IS good taste, that taste is not purely subjective, and that we can learn to identify and develop it. If you disagree, fine, then bow out. We’re not going to debate it here. You call can debate it somewhere else. I’m not going to join because I’ve had it out zillions of times and have nothing more to say.

Stitches at 318: absolutely the wrong tie for a white shirt or the wrong shirt for that tie. I will have a thread up on this shorty. If that collar is a BD, the shape is bad, you need some roll. @320, none of those are good. You have my longer comments re: the ties via PM.

Nay@327: Whoah. Can’t tell the suit is brown from the pic. Looks REALLY discordant. I was going to post this as an aphorism, but I may as well say it here: for men, LIGHT and BRIGHT do not combine well. Light ties or other pieces are great, but it’s almost always best when the colors are dull. It’s possible that, with a more summery suit, say linen or cotton, I would like that tie a lot more.

Gaz@330: first, I think the brown shoes throw it. To me, a white shirt almost always demands black shoes. That combo does. Second looks like a B&W photo. Very strange for a blazer ensemble to wear a white shirt and an all gray tie. That one would not be saved with black shoes, however, it would just make all look even more monochrome. I would have to call this an ambitious failure. Last one is better, I don’t like the shirt and again, all that white ground with brown shoes is discordant. If I could tell the color of the stripe I might feel differently. Also, that cloth you called nailhead is actually birdseye for the record.

ET@ 334: it’s fine but more and more I am coming to the conclusion that no tie should also mean no square.

Papa@338, very good, please smush the square down a bit.

Foo@361: I prefer graph paper checks to be smaller. Not crazy about the tie and it seems a bit matchy with the square.

NOBD@371: please tell me that was from last winter. Everything is OK until you get to the shoes. Tobacco is the wrong suede for that. I would try either a ginger or a mink.
