As for the tie question, I think I've come to prefer lighter, maybe even slightly 'flimsy' ties, even though most conventional wisdom I've come across (at least pre SF) seems to suggest a quality tie should have some heft and body. I like the louche feeling of it - goes well with a softer collar, I think. For all I know it may well be inappropriate for CBD, for those that care about that.

Stitchy, that looks much better than combination with a green shirt and navy pants. I hope that pants are not navy here.

It is three posts above yours, the answer.

Dudes brought their A-game today. Black umbrella - I like all the pieces, but the tie and pocket square are fighting a bit. Neat designs on both tie and pocket square is very difficult.

I like it, but personally I'd opt for no pocket square in this case. If anything just a simple white linen peeking through a bit. I rarely wear squares with tweed actually, but that's just me.

thanks for enjoying that thread, I've stayed away for two reasons, I've been very busy with a bunch of stuff and also, I didn't want the thread to serve as a soapbox for just my views. Sometimes I comment on people's fit and after awhile I get tired of hearing my own voice so I can only imagine how others feel. I try to step away and let others give their opinions. I'll try and post in that thread a bit more of only to keep it alive.

In terms of Beetle's tie, its a nice tie with texture up close but it is a boring tie worn in a boring outfit. I don't mind the outfit and I don't mind the smaller knots but I think if he made a bigger knot, gave the tie an erection for the picture and took a close up, people would like the overall outfit better.

^ agreed, the tie has a really nice texture that my pic doesn't showcase. And I was wearing these outfits for job interviews, so boring is what I was going for biggrin.gif

When I looked at the pic, that was my thought too. I was hoping that I could push it down enough to keep the pattern minimized, but I ended up ditching the square early in the morning.

Perhaps, but my objection was not to the lack of tie boaner, but the scale of the knot relative to the collar. I have a couple of ties like this, and I'll use a half-windsor to give it some heft. I know that's against the orthodoxy, but there it is.
