No, it's some random Italian linen that W.W. Chan carries ("Kerry Knoll"?). Was the only brown shade I liked when I went through their books last year

There needs to be two threads separated out:
1) An archival-type pinned thread of just photos of good taste from both a CBD and business casual perspective perhaps accompanied by an essay.
2) Another thread where people can ask, "is this in good taste?"and get responses.

First 30 pages or so were great. I'd ignored SF for a while and then came upon this thread. I read the first 40 or 50 pages with two browser windows open so I could view comments from Manton, et al., while looking at the pics.

Any way, here's a few days of the last week or so to further the threads degeneration:

Today: Minnis 520, check shirt, shantung rep tie (color is navy, white, and gold)

Minnis 511. Shirt is actually hairline stripe

Shirt is tan checked, so probably too matchy matchy with the tan edge of the pocket square:

Suit is a fairly light navy. Pocket square keeps escaping.

One of my few real striped shirts:

Suit is blue nailhead:

Sorry for the bad iphone pics

tie #1 and shirt #3 are awful but the rest is good.

Good to see you again, Pink.

Guys, apparently this can't be said often enough, try not to let the edges of your pocket squares brush up against your nose.

Manton, what do you do with cotton squares like the one I wore last post; a Simmonot Godard with rolled edges?

I recall you posting that such squares should be spiked in one direction... How do you do this? Any pictorials to learn from?

Collars that are too spread are hard to pull off, too spread and short points is an almost impossible look to pull off.

A more spread collar would break all these down-sloping lines and lift up the overall look IMO.

Thanks for the feedback, all.

It's actually a tall semi-cutaway from Charles Nakhle. This one does not work as well with thicker tie fabrics like Challis though. My P Johnson shirts, also semis, have more of a spread and therefore work better.

You dislike the tie itself or in combination with the checked shirt?

I know this has been suggested before, but you really should do a curated WAYWRN thread. Select a group who can post: you, Foo, Whnay, etc., with each explaining the choices made. No one else posts pictures.

I think some people want to see a curated WAYWRN thread because they want to get ideas for combinations that they can do themselves, or so that they can just have pretty things to look at. That's all well and good, and there are threads like that. TRINI's thread, gdl's thread, Vox's many roundups. Basically in wanting to turn this thread into such a thread, you just want Manton's version. Which is fine, but not the original intent of this thread I think, nor the way in which it could provide the greatest value to the forum.

Instead, I think of the thread as a no-BS zone, where if you post a fit, you are willing to subject yourself to severe criticism, and take it like a man. Also, you are assuming the aesthetic that is pretty clearly set out within the first few pages of the thread.

Up to a certain point, the thread does not lose value by having fits in poor taste posted IMHO. If it becomes all bad taste, that's a problem. But even a sizable share of the fits posted being in poor taste is fine, as long as they are shouted down and harangued by the arbiters of good taste. It is a shame that foo.gif and whnay haven't posted fits in a while ITT. But gdl is going strong, as well as others that have posted nice fits in the past few pages. I think anybody can read through the past few pages and note through comments which fits are good and which bad, and in some cases, why. That is a successful threak IMHO. The thread loses value only when those with good taste lose the energy to play whack-a-mole against bad taste.

No, what I really want is the commentary/explanation of the choices made by Manton, Foo, Vox, et al. That's why I enjoyed the earlier part of the thread so much. People were taking time to explain and/or justify what they did. I can see the value of the no BS critique thread that you admire. I'm just not that interested in it.

A lot of that came out of questions from others too though. I'm sure if you have a question about why somebody is doing something or why something is wrong, they will likely answer it.

I think Mr Pink is referring to the systematic critique of every fit that Manton was doing in the first pages of the thread.
