Sub in a nailshead or birdseye suit, subtly striped (or at least end-on-end) shirt or a tie that isn't so flat and uniform.

C - thanks. the 3 solids was intentional. it was meant to be an "austere" look, and i felt any patterns would take away from that.

here is the bottom btw. go ahead, get mad. wink.gif

sadly, i do not have any other navy suits, but there is a great chance i will have a birdseye in the near future. want so bad. i would more likely use a textured/mixed solid as you suggested, than add a pattern, for this particular look. and now that i re-read your post, i think that is what you were saying. doh.

S - thanks. im not sure it would improve, but it would certainly be different and have more "pop," and its not the look i wanted.

Then different shoes and socks would be recommended, imo, as matching socks with burgundy-ish shoes, in an aggressive last with an unusual design, doesn't seem very austere.

Yea. That's what i was saying.

The austere look doesn't really work with a red tie. Go navy or black. A white PS is also all but required.

The pents are the only part of that I don't mind.

cool beans.

i would not call the tie red though. its really a maroon/burgundy, maybe the color came off wrong in the pic/on your computer.

interesting that you say to be austere it needs to be navy or black. maybe austere is the wrong word, but i would looking for an all solid fit, top to bottom. maybe that in itself is bad, idrk.

lol PS, whatcu talkin bout willis.

I honestly don't think it is bad -- just a bit boring and reminds me of presidential debates -- and I don't understand so many people's aversion to red ties on this forum.

I don't mind red ties generally and like (and wear) some specific ones quite a lot.

thanks, man. it was boring. sometimes i like boring.

i understand it with some ties, but often the generic, anything close to red, tie hate, is absurd imo. and its not even shared by many of those who are highly knowledgable.

and fwiw, i did not think C was saying the color of the tie was bad, just that it was the wrong color for an austere fit, and i understand what he meant by that. austere was the wrong word for what i was trying to convey. that was my bad.

edit - bam! C confirms my thoughts were right. cheers.gif
