I've a jacket with a similar color to your jacket in the first outfit, I've a lot of trouble trying to pair it and my conclusion is that I should not have commissioned it, it's not grey, it's not brown, and certainly does not look better than both.

I'd like to see more contrast between the tie and jacket on the first outfit, a bottle green would be nice and keep the theme. The second looks better to me, but I'd also opt for a darker tie, however I'm biased as I don't like light colored ties in general.

I tend to agree with this -- I'm allergic to saturated blues in shirts, and a little gunshy around pinstripes like that (I think they work best in a more casual rig, and thus in a more casual cloth).

Maybe a solid with some texture (pinpoint or end-on-end) would be good here -- as would some distance from subject. :)

it is too blue, methinks.

interesting. well, my thought was, i think the jacket is not quite ideal for a solid light blue shirt, too close in color, and these stripes are far wider than pin stripes. it is a fairly saturated blue though, i guess it just didnt occur to me that that would be an issue. ah well.

An inspired coat and tie combination.  People often look only at matching hue (green coat, green tie), but you're also matching the saturation and brightness.  Both the sportscoat and necktie are subdued, dusky shades of green.  The faint orange check in the coat and the stars on the tie match in the same subtle way.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
