BTW, is it just me or is the buttoning point on nearly every jacket posted here too damn high.

It's true. But enough people do it so it has become kind of acceptable. Same with the high gorges. It bothers me every time.

But, this thread isn't actually about the fit, but color and texture combination.

First pic is accurate.

Exceptional. I think I am going in the other direction weight wise. Up 65lbs over the last couple years. Blowing through suits left and right.

High gorges are usually flattering, they don't bother me. High button stances not so much, specially when paired with low rise trousers... I just don't get it, it doesn't look good on anyone.

If this has become the case, then this thread should be closed.

This is not the fit critique thread. I don't have the time, inclination, nor a professional photographer on staff to take static poses that show my clothes without a ripple. All the pics of myself will be taken by me with a bent arm and hence the jacket askew. Please pay attention to the color and fabric combinations, which is the point.

There is a difference though, between a critique on "fit" and clothes just not fitting.  If something doesn't fit it certainly isn't in good taste.

He did indeed say that, but among Manton and those those mentioned by name in Manton's initial post there is an assumption of good fit. From my interactions, I can't imagine any of them would say that shitty fitting clothes are ever in good taste. So I will clarify my glibness: This thread operates under an assumption that the posts being made are of well fitting clothes and so the focus of the thread may be on other things. If it is no longer being assumed that the fits being posted have some semblance of good fit, then the purpose of the thread has been betrayed. A violation of underlying assumptions renders a conclusion moot as it were.

However, thinking about it, both buttoning point and high gorge are both stylistic choices rather than matters of fit. They should be fair game for discussion.

Ok, we do agree then after all :sly:

How ironic.

We had this exact discussion a couple of months ago, with even ringmaster Manton himself chiming in to say -- I hope I'm not misrepresenting him here -- that all contributions are fair game as long as they're grounds for fruitful discussion. Or some such. Personally, I just think of this thread as the NHL to WAYWT's AHL.

Sorry, I didn't read the previous 338 pages of the thread in its entirety.

I dig that this is kidding, but if you have the time, this actually isn't such a bad idea. It's occasionally just a bunch of people squabbling for a while, but if you look at anything Manton has to say, anything :foo:posts with either a pic or a direct application to picking out clothes, and focus more on the pictures than on the weird digressions, you can learn a lot. I'd say I learned more from this thread and the Coherent Combinations thread than from any others.

This is totally unsurprising.

Who are these two guys, Foo and Manton, that you're referring to?
