I don't think there is anything wrong with Obama's tie in that pic but the suit is awful and even worse is the combination of that suit, that tie and white shirt.
And the suit size...he has a large head, but an awkwardly shaped/sized body.

but, yeah, that tie doesnt match the rest of what he is wearing.

I thought presidents had people to dress them? I recall reading a Bush 43 book, and his advisors demanding he re-style, but him insisting upon cowboy boots. (normal where I am)

The shirt doesn't fit in that picture (anymore?).

What makes you say this?

I will spare everyone my back catalog. This is a good opportunity to thank Nii again for calling me out on some fundamental failures that others were too nice/afraid to mention.

A long time ago (at the start of my 30s - now 39) I wore on a few occasions during the summer a cream suit, with a very light pink shirt, paired with a tie with light pink and blue diagonal stripes (but there were thin diagonal lines running in the opposite direction) with mustard coloured slip-ons. Fortunately, there is no photographic evidence.

Sartorial ignorance aside, and despite being told I looked "sharp" by 2 random people on the same day, I had 2 mitigating reasons:
1. A Persian / Canadian girl at work - whom I liked but never asked for a drink, despite having her number - approved (she believed people should wear more colour)
2. I was playing a LOT of GTA:VC

To make matters worse, since I'm mixed race and have an Olive / light-coffee complexion, I looked like a South American drug baron. I suspect, I probably was aiming for the effect.

Over notable low-lights include:
Wearing a brown suit (I love browns for wool trousers and merino wool V-necks - not suits)
Wearing paper-clips in place of cuff links (too lazy to fiddle with cuff links and double-cuffs)
MTM suit with no vents (recommended to me by the guy who took my measurements)
Wearing a pale yellow shirt with a Charcoal suit

I have committed so many sartorial offences in my past, that the Feds ought to be called into this thread - it's criminal!

Put this together for an occasion where I needed to go day to night with an emphasis on dressing for the evening event. I tried using the stripes and monks to tone it down for the day, but overall it just felt like a coherenceFAIL. I'm really only posting it here to hear this crowd's take on the lapels, which I'm not sure about. I wanted to go wider than usual but feel like these flirt with too-extreme. The sleeves also seem too narrow to my eye. Thoughts?

there's nothing incoheret about but I absolutely would not get wider lapels. You could stand to shave a quarter or even half inch off those, in fact.

Right, I was referring to this suit's lapels already being too wide. I would feel better with at least a half inch narrower. What's your take on the sleeves? Thinking of letting them out a bit.

I would only let out the sleeves if they're uncomfortable. I don't think they look too narrow.
