being a cheap bastard, maintenance for me sucks. wink.gif i find great pleasure in shining and maintaining my shoes and ironing my shirts. now, i have a really rough time at the cleaners. Ive managed to have cleaners lose some very nive stuff, only to tell me that im a liar when i tell them how much it will cost to replace a shirt. Theres a new place that opened near my house that seemed very nice. I spoke to the owner when i took my isaia suit in, told her my concerns, and asked if they could put the maker of my suit on the receipts in the event they were lost. When i came back to pick it up, they gave me a stack of clothes and i paid and left. When i got home, i realized they gave me my suit, my wife's clothes, and someone elses 2 shirts and 2 trous. Luckily im honest enough to take them back and not keep them. But i have a very sour taste in my mouth (queue the jokes) for dry cleaners. I wish i could just open one myself for only my own clothes.

You have to find a cleaners that does it all in-house. Less chance of losses.

Ok, so I have a nice walk to the train in the morning and today I got soaked by a flash monsoon that, of course, ended as soon as I got to the station. I am soaked, trouser crease ruined, shoes sopping wet and I feel like Sherman McCoy being lead into Central Booking. What is the proper care after something like this occurs? I usually take my trousers in for a steam and press, but would dry cleaning be better? Also, for the shoes when I get home I generally stuff trees in them, (I don't buy the nespaper is better thing) and put them on their side for a few days. Next, I will condition and polish. Does this sound about right?

Do you guys not own an iron or something?

just hang the trousers up in a well ventilated place and they'll dry.

same with shoes.

No shit they will dry, but once a crease is removed an iron won't do it. Even if you can line up the crease again irons, (at least mine) is not strong enough to set a crease. Also, NYC streets when walking in the rain kick up a lot of dirt and such.
