Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions - Page 439

Question for anyone who is going to have to file this year due to $20k+ thru PayPal:

If the IRS tries to cheese me, can I counter-dog with the royal hedge?  I don't want to be on the hook for a mess of curly fries, and will double-donk if need be, but would rather fish for smelt with a wiggle worm than lay my palm frond at that service station.

Thanks in advance.

You guys using GarageSale - what's the deal with item details? I can't leave some stuff out? GS won't upload my listings because I leave some item details out. Size type and brand are useless details on my 40+y/o german military pants; infact, including such would likely be misleading. How do you guys get around this?

Of course you want the size, right? The measurement of the waist will suffice.

Type - Military

Brand - Unknown

Does anyone use the pay for shipping later option when you purchase shipping through eBay. I'm still in the stage where PayPal holds my money for a bit so sometimes I'll click that box and pay later depending on the balance in PayPal at the time. Does this have any affect on how much the shipping actually costs? It doesn't visibly, but I'm not sure if they're taking an extra percentage on the backend. Anyone use it? Have any details?

Wes, have you found an area inside GarageSale to input a restocking fee percentage?

Still on the hunt!

No, but I still have it on my terms and conditions page.\

Could easily add it to the customizable side bar in the template under returns.

Buyer asks for question last Thursday about sleeves, basically how much can they be let out. I reply Thursday night saying approximately 1 inch from what I can feel under the lining, but if he wants I can go to an alterations person to get a definitive answer. Wake up Friday morning to see he purchased the jacket, but hasn't paid. I sent invoice, nothing. It's Monday afternoon, still nothing. I did go to the alterations guy  this morning anyway, he told me about 0.75 inches. So I send him a reminder about payment and also told him the new information I got from alterations. Still waiting.

Could I have done anything different? Have I given him an out to back out of the purchase?

This is why I want to send everything to Brianpore. I've sold a total of 4 items on ebay, and this is turning out to be the second 'non-payment' case. Lucky me.

If you're using buy-it-now, you can select the option that they must pay immediately. I have this selected using GarageSale, but some (many) slip through where they buy it and wait to pay. One person told me that they couldn't buy it without paying, so I think it may have corrected itself with my most recent update.

Thanks. I just tried to change to that option and ebay tells me I need to have a 'premier' paypal account to do that. I don't.

At this point I'm more worried that he might use the sleeve information I gave him to back out of the sale. We shall see. My impression is he purchased the jacket so nobody else could buy it over the weekend, and was waiting to hear from me about alterations (I told him earliest I could go to the alterations shop was monday morning).

I have the information in every listing, but my problem is with the easy return program through eBay, when you go to give a refund, unless you have that option selected, you cannot add in a restocking fee during the refund process...atleast that is what I've found.

Only options I see are to either mass revise listings through eBay and add that in to the ones that dont have that option selected.

OR, since stated in the listing, during the return, refund through PayPal, then go back into eBay and send a cancellation request to the buyer.

Second option seems like a hassle now that I'm enrolled through the eBay returns.

I really wish GS had an option for that to add to our templates, because it sounds like eBay is getting very crucial with having that option selected during the return process...

Strange. I think I had to upgrade my PayPal account years ago when I received a certain amount within a period of time. If you're selling, my guess would be that you'll be forced into upgrading anyway. If he decides to back out, which is frustrating but happens, then you can file an unpaid item case against them. Wait four days, close the case, and get your fees returned. It's all a part of this process.

Since you mentioned not having the interest in the whole thing, it's really a lot easier dumping your stuff on consigners (assuming that it's stuff they can sell). Both Brian (Brianpore) and Matthew (SpooPoker) run great outfits. I've done personal items through Matthew and I've seen a number of Brian's auctions and they both do a stellar job. It takes the hassle out of it.
