Mental note... No shipping to Italy!

I sold a blazer for a considerable amount (almost $500) to a buyer in London. He has 4 feedback, 100% positive. About 1 hour after the sale he sends me this:
Quote:
Hi I have been contacted by my bank and been informed that my card has been used online with out permission .

they have put block on all internet transactions .

I defiantly want to purchase but will have to what for 20th of the month .

if you need to sell urgently please feel free sorry for inconvenience

Then a few minutes later, he sends this message, which is identical, except he now says the 23rd instead of the 20th:

If his credit card has been used online, what the hell does that have to do with PayPal? Unless it was his debit card that was linked to his checking account, and they also decided to close his checking account as a result, and therefore he can't fund his PayPal account because of this - but this whole thing seems to be a red flag. I guess I could:

1) Re-list it and tell him to just purchase it again when he can. The downside here is that he might be less likely to purchase it if he thinks he can get out of it without being dinged for an unpaid item.

2) Don't re-list it and wait for him to make payment.

What would you do? I already inquired about the credit card versus PayPal. Waiting on his response.

I'm pretty sure...not completely sure you can set up a PayPal with only card information, no bank information. I think this means your account is Unverified though.

Buyers can pay with a credit card, through the paypal site, without actually having a paypal account. It's a secure convenience paypal offers to buyers who don't want an account.

They also said that it wouldn't show up in the buyer's purchased items on ebay. I contacted the buyer and went ahead and shipped. About a week later, I get an email from ebayer basically saying that their system f'd up, I could keep the payment from the buyer and that they would also reimburse the buyer! I didn't have to pay final value fee and he got a free pair of jeans.

Interesting...

What happened with the auction in your case? My auction is still running, apparently - did you end yours or what? I'm scared that if I end the item, it'll auto-refund the buyer or something.

I guess I'd better call Ebay and ask them to sort it out, even if it does cost me a $26 final value fee - though I certainly hope the same thing happens for me as did for you! wink.gif

Yeah, I ended the auction after I spoke with ebay.

Any ideas on how to talk to your postman? I moved about two months ago and new postman regularly fills out notice slips or doesn't even leave one instead of delivering the package. I've seen him a few times before as he doesn't get to my apartment until late afternoon or evening when I'm coming home and he doesn't even carry my packages into the apartment but has the notice ready since it will be in my mailbox. He has key and everything as sometimes he does deliver packages but it's 50/50. And these are not signature confirmation just normal delivery confirmation packages that are left at my door sometimes as well.

I live right next to post office so I've just been dropping off packages but I would like to just leave them out but don't know if he would be consistent in picking up packages neither. And it's a huge hassle to pick up packages as we all know how the post office is

Protip - If an ebay customer ever uses feedback extortion, don't tell him that what he is doing is wrong or use the term feedback extortion in correspondence with him.

Let him make the same mistake next time. Resist the impulse to thank him for the "Get Out of Jail Free" card. That will be my last ebay shipment to Russia, BTW.

Anyone else have disappearing items lately? I swear I saw an 'item sold notification' for a Thomas Pink shirt on Sunday. I haven't been able to find any record of it since, and my item is nowhere to be found.

EDIT: Found it... In my archived sales. Not sure how that happened, but look there first if this happens to you!

Anyone have an ebay customer service phone number that reaches someone here in the United States? Is that even a thing anymore?

I always get US based service. What number are you calling? The one with the unique pin?
