I've begun to upgrade my studio setup. Found these ceiling mounts on Ebay, and with the lights at the highest setting, they're above my head. This will certainly help to declutter my space!

What do you guys recommend doing if I receive an item that is definitely SNAD (i.e. described as "new" but very obviously used; missing original parts; not in original packaging)?

If you think the seller may have made a mistake in the listing, try contacting him to see what he suggests as a recourse. If you think he's a scammer, open a case...

I think the best first course of action in any instance is to first contact the seller and talk to them about the problem. How they react will guide you as to whether or not you should open a case.

Guys, how do you spot a fake Hermes "H" tie? I know how to tell if the whimsical ties are faked, but I can't find any definitive info on the "H" embroidered ties.

Is there anything you can do against people retracting a bid? I bet the answer is no. I had a guy who messaged me to send him an invoice through PayPal. I ignored him, he placed a bid on the item before retracting it because he “couldn’t contact the seller”… I also just had another guy placing 3 bids on an item that I was selling with reserve price (the 3rd bid meeting that reserve price) before retracting them because he “entered wrong amount”. I reported the 1st to eBay, nothing I can do beside that? BTW both have over 400 positive feedbacks and no negative, although they obviously don’t mind at all violating the rules.

Nice! are you able to angle them directly down?

Yep. The socket can be installed three different directions. I need to install the second one... I didn't have enough screws to install both (I'll use a third light on a floor stand until I find a better solution).

Ebay item #261439842719

Quote: Couple of reasons, but it gets bloody hot when shooting for hours on end. They call them hot lights for a reason. I'm also not happy with the amount of light they are putting out and want brighter lights so I can reduce my iso and shutter speed. I'm currently shooting iso 1600, 1/40 or 1/50 and f:7.1 -

Why do you shoot flash, no clue if its better or not, but it just seems like it will reduce the amount of heat in the room and also provide more light. By using the pre-white balance and manual mode there should be no issues the the color of the photos and the bulbs.

Any feedback good or bad would be great.

Do you use a camera stand? Not sure why the shutter speed is an issue. That's well within the realm of being okay even for handheld. Also, why not move up to iso 3200?

1600?? I'm using ISO 400 with shutter speeds around 1/160. I think you might just need better lights.

I'll start with ..... I know nothing about photography at all. I thought iso 1600 was already "too high" and i should be down at like iso 400 for crisp pictures? Not the case? I only shoot hand held and have had no issue at 1/40 or 1/50 but again just thought it would be better quality at a quick shutter. Biggest thing is being able to bump up the "f" so there is less fading in some of the angled photos of ties and shoes. Bring more into focus.

I'm using (2) Lowel Rifa Lights with 500w bulb in each to light the object http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/285875-REG/Lowel_LC_95LBZ_Rifa_Lite_EX55_Softbox_Light.html

I mean, you're not uploading images that are going to be on gigantic posters. Most of the pictures on ebay will be compressed so they're pretty small anyway. I'd try opening the aperture up a bit more and seeing how things look. Are you picking the one you have for depth of field issues? I.e. too little area of focus with a smaller aperture?
