+1 if the "I steamed it" is in the ebay message, be super nice to the person on the phone at ebay, ask how their day is going, tell them a knock knock joke and then explain to them why steaming a tie would be returning an item in different condition then it was shipped and you have a decent shot at winning.

lol I've told knock knock jokes before

Quick question:

Let's say I have a BINOBO auction with 5 items, and someone emails me and says, "I only want 3 of those 5 items and I'll pay $X for them." Is that valid, or I am opening myself up to a dishonest buyer saying he didn't get everything in the listing?

Revise item description and price and tell him to use the BIN once the description correctly states what is being sold in the auction.

"SEE OUR OTHER AUCTIONS FOR OVER 100 SIMILAR TIES & MORE"

I thought it was someone else's items for a moment

ties have become a major part of my business - and I've got lots more multiple tie selling and cross category selling since I added that.

Photography question:

I'm getting somewhat I would almost call "stale" hospital like pictures with no real contrast. One I upload to Ebay, I can slide the contrast on the Ebay uploader up to about +25 and they become a ton better and really get the depth of color. Is there some easy setting to adjust on the camera to get that result straight out of the camera?

Example:

Out of Camera

And then here's what I get after editing the contrast

That's really fucked up. So we can't just issue refunds on our own products now at our own discretion? I actually did this twice in the last week (same customer: I refunded his money because I found out the item he bought wasn't in stock, and told him that if he wanted to buy any other item I had, I'd give him a discount, and he did so I did), because I made a mistake, so that means I've got two defects coming at me now? BTW, this buyer wrote me the most glowing email I've ever gotten from a buyer guaranteeing to return to my store and buy more from me. He praised both my responsiveness and integrity. So fucked up. Guess I need to call eBay.

eBay's goal is to make it almost impossible to keep Top Rated Seller status. That way they eliminate discounts for sellers and increase profits. That is primary. Customer satisfaction is secondary.

I lost my top rated status on eBay. I made an inquiry and found out that my seller report has 5 defects. 2 defects were cancelled transactions. Yes these count as defects. 2 defects were from back in 2013.
Another defect was a bogus case that the buyer never followed up on. The time limit expired and the case closed. This also counted as a defect. In short I lost my 20% seller discount because of these chicken poop defects. I am so sick of eBay.

Any advice on declining vs. countering lowball offers?

I'm tempted to just decline with a message like, "sorry, this is much too low," with the hopes of possibly goading the buyer into making a reasonable offer (rather than countering and making him think I'm willing to meet in the middle).

It's a lot of 5 items. At this point I am tempted to just break them up and auction them individually. I wanted to save myself the hassle, but I'll probably make more.

I am not a professional so for me i would try.

* Put camera in vivid mode
* Tweak first picture in Irfanview and check histogram. Use same settings for future pictures

There will be no perm settings due lighters items/darker items setting conflicts. Some have mentioned running a script on batch photos, Google it for more info.

I've just been countering with an offer that is 1 dollar less than my original price with a "Thank you for considering my offer." message back. Using the listing on the web option (sell one like this...) doesn't give the option to auto decline offers below a certain price but other methods like turbolister do.
