Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions - Page 1982

Thanks for the help guys. Grabbing two AlienBees 160WS units of Craigslist tomorrow. Cheap enough that I can flip if I have second thoughts and go a different.

Another question:

Is Dunhill Tailors old Dunhill? High quality suit from the 70s.

I received a hatchet, shipped from Germany, in a padded paper envelope.

If anyone is shipping potentially fragile thing this way, please stop.

Anyone happen to recognize/know if the following eBay ID is someone who's on the forum?

nptboy

Tried to submit a bid on two of his items, and received an error that they're not accepting any bids from me, and I cannot message them either... In the past I returned a piece I purchased from them (for $24.50) and I guess since then they probably added me to their blocklist. If anyone knows if they're a member here, please let me know! Thanks!

Have an EZ Su Misura cashmere jacket marked 62 EU but measures as a US 46 (chest 24"). Triple checked the measurement, obviously that's WAY off. Anyone know what's up?

Assuming to have had just about as much experience as anyone else on here well versed with Zegna pieces (for personal and professional reasons) other than Brain most likely and of course Spoo, I believe I can be of some help here. 1. With Su Misura pieces, disregard all posted measurements, except the length, this is 99% correct, albeit fairly hard to fuck up. I actually have a Cash Su Misura tagged almost identical, 62R, chest is like a 44 or something, the Shoulders are quite wide though, however regardless. 2. With Zegna, the market, buyers and sellers, know it as the measurements not aligning with a classically measured suit i.e. classic inches measured to tagged size ratio, for example, 42R usually measure 21.5-21.75, not spot on but on average below most industry standards. I've found when stuck with a Zegna piece that actually measures to an exact, list it as that exact (in this case, simply 48L) because this results in higher traffic. However be careful when doing this, because there are bullshit technicalities that can be claimed by a buyer with remorse or whatever (if you accept returns, I don't, but just in case). Make sure the tagged size is documented, then the measured US size is given as the equivalent. Just don't leave yourself open for assholes.

Making a shopping list for what I need:

- 4 strobes total: two for subject, two for background

- Transmitter from camera position

- One or more receievers. I understand it's possible to have one receiver and wire the other strobes as slaves, is that right?

That's it, right? Do I need an umbrella or two?

My Alien Bees came with umbrellas, which I use, but diffusers were extra.

You can find cheaper strobe bundles on ebay, but Alien Bees will set you back $225 each, economy stands about 20 each. entry level DSLR camera like the d3300 nikon or the Canon T5i will be $500  ish, but coming up to the holidays, there will be tons of bundled deals on cameras.

Reasonable budget is $1500. If you go with ebay flash units from cowboy lighting or similar, maybe $1000 with stands and everything.

In my set up, I have 2 alien bees I found on Craigslist and they work great so you can save if you live in a large enough area to have gear show up on craigslist.

On ebay, used bees were going for $200 so I just paid the $225 to get 2 new ones. I would have had to be under $150 to go used.

Founded in 1923 on lower Fifth Avenue, Dunhill Tailors was a premium Men’s clothing store in New York selling bespoke and ready to wear clothing. Truly one of New York's finest -- and most noted — tailors, the Block family ran the business successfully into the 1980s.  The business was sold to Alfred Dunhill of London in the mid-1980s when Leon Block retired.

Pieces do fairly well on ebay. I sold this cobalt blue blazer last year for $140 ish if I remember correctly.

I picked up another d3300 yesterday for $200 off Craigslist. It had 1645 clicks and came with two lenses. Deals are out there if you look. The seller wanted the updated d3400 because of the built-in wireless capabilities.
