Yesterday I noticed three transfers going FROM my checking account TO paypal, which is the opposite to how it's supposed to go. I had no PP transactions in those amounts, so I called PayPal, and it turns out three ladies I don't know had my checking account linked to their paypal accounts. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
PP limited those accounts so they can't access my checking, but they couldn't actually find the three transactions. I had to call my bank to get the payments reversed and freeze my account. Tomorrow I have to go in and open a whole new checking account, which means I'll also have to update anyone that does direct deposit into my account, including Paypal and Etsy- which may be where the leak happened. Paypal and my bank were both super helpful, but I am not full of confidence.

Luckily, they stole under $200, and I'll get it all back tomorrow at the bank. Bastards.cloud.gif
Apparently it's a pretty common angle.

All a thief needs is a check in order to get account number and routing number. PayPal needs to make it possible to limit access to one's bank account to just one PP account.

Makes me happy I've never written a check before.

About the bank account stuff... usually after you "attach" the account they send you 2 small deposits (under $1) which you need to log into your bank account to check, log into paypal and then enter those specifics amounts to confirm the account. I wonder how they verified the bank accounts without being able to log into check the amounts for confirmation?? Any info?

Anyone else who uses the standard eBay uploader having problems creating a listing? I get to the part where you select auction or fixed price and it just does the spinning wheel like its thinking forever.

Hmm, maybe it's this new computer. Have had some other issues as well. Can't wait to get a Mac again.

Been happening to me all afternoon today.  Sometimes photos won't load.  Sometimes I can't choose my own shipping, etc.

Was happening last night so I finally gave up and went to bed, hoping things would be better in the morning. No such luck.

Unless this happened a few years ago, there were no test deposits other than the ones I did to initially open the account. Digging through my records, there are, however, a couple more transfers from my account into a random paypal account, almost a year ago, but they're under $5. I'm wondering if it's either just a clerical error, or if it's thieves taking tiny amounts from hundreds of people who never notice.

you guys are crazy having your real accounts linked still. I Started an account thats got nothing in it. I use my PayPal credit on the account that i use for all transactions. I transfer money to pay that to that dead end account down to the penny.

How did you search for them? I have too many to keep track of in and out each day

This makes me feel good and bad at the same time :decisions: - How can I photograph it any better?

Positive feedback rating Beautiful Canali tie. Nicer than picture. Came a day earlier than anticipated. - View Item

I wasn't searching paypal transactions, because this leak had nothing to do with my paypal account. I searched my checking account, which should rarely-if-ever have funds going out to paypal. My checking account doesn't usually see that much action, so it's not tough to search.

I'm intrigued by the notion of keeping a second account, but that doesn't really prevent a thief from stealing your checking account info and linking it to their paypal account. It's a good idea regardless to keep an eye on your checking account to make sure no one's sneaking money out of it.

Good call on checking the bank account. Need to speak with the bank tomorrow to have a different 2nd account... might be able to do it easy with a business account
