Better question, if you feel returning it is a better deal then selling it on ebay why dont you just go return it yourself and get the store credit?

I personally sell things NWOT sometimes when I buy them at discount stores and remove the discount store tag but that is different and I take the tags off before taking pictures or listings the item.

I was just wondering what other people did with NWT items that could be easily returned for store credit or cash. Do people typically return these to stores?

I do not feel it is right to return an item I did not purchase at Brooks Brothers for store credit.

I feel marking through the tag (since they were not bought at a discount store) is better than removing the tags and selling them as NWOT.

Or you could just sell it as is.

If the stores want to mark the items to prevent returns, that's their business.

Not saying I do, but you not feeling right is on you. What the person buying it does is on them. If you DO mark the tags, make sure to note that in the auction and show a picture. Even if my plan is not to return it, if you called it NWT and made no mention of the tags being marked and then I got the item with marked tags, I would be pissed. Just my opinion.

I would be all over those, but I'm in a bit of a cash crunch at the moment. About a dozen of those views are from me smile.gif

Yeah selections seem really random, just put saved searches to email and it's much more efficient

I thought you could do a parcel box for a lot cheaper to the UK? Did they do away with that?

Probably another dumb question but how do you know if ebay sent you a 1099 or not? Haven't gotten one in mail but just wanted to see if you can confirm online. Laptop dead since charger isn't working and AppleCare is failing so can't search too well at the moment. And if its personal items mostly the you sell do you even need to report?

Really? puzzled.gif Doesn't seem like a mark on the tag affects the item or its value at all.

Did you make over $20,000 and have over 200 transactions last year? Or maybe that's just the paypal rule... although they're probably tightly linked.

Ref. the tags, yes I would be annoyed if I got an item with marked tags and it was not disclosed in the listing. USUALLY, marked tags are there for a reason from BB itself so the item can not be returned. Irregular, defect, sample, display item, etc. which are sold at a discount with a no return policy. If he wants to be upfront and say the tags are marked in the listing and take a picture of it, then fine. I know what I'm bidding on then, but dont send me a NWT item and then have me find out that the tags are marked when I get it. No bueno.

Also I dont think a lot of people buy NWT stuff just to go return, but if they do, thats on them. Not sure why you are trying to do Brooks Brothers job for them.

In regards to the 1099 question. I got one last year, and this year from PAYPAL. Never got one or heard/read about ebay sending them out. Ebay facilitates transactions so I dont see why they would send you a 1099. Paypal is a 3rd party payment processing company which under new laws is required to send a 1099 for people who receive over $20,000 AND 200 sales. If you log into paypal, go to history and then taxes and you will see if you have a 1099, but if you sold less then $20K and 200 items you wont get one, that dosnt mean you shouldnt report your profit or you may even be able to report a loss and save on taxes if you sold personal items at a lower value then you paid for them!

Just in case this happens to anyone else:

eBay removed every one of my listings (~130) this morning in what has been deemed either an error by an eBay representative or a site glitch. The items are now back on the site, but have disappeared from the history/watch lists and will look like this if someone checks to see if they are re-listed:
