Wow, this thread has taken a turn for the AWESOME!  When did we get our own personal Donald Trump knockoff?  Somebody that doesn't take crap from anyone, totally ignores advice from far more educated elder thriftsmen, and is the best at everything just because he says so!  I'm totally psyched.

Wait, no I'm not.  I can't stand Donald Trump.

Gif is working now. Stupid iPad running all slow so I thought I had a gif instead of a JPEG.

(But yes. The answer is yes.)

My last day there, I ran a half marathon, and I'm not at all sure how I didn't end up at Matt's. My brother's brother-in-law told me about the place. My brother lives in Fargo, but his wife's family is around the Cities.

Speaking of Donald Trump, has anyone noticed how much Donald Trump crap (mostly ties and shirts) there is in thrift stores right now?

Right now? It's the new Van Heusen/London Fog. It's been there since the line started and it will be there long after we're all dead

I too have been seeing a lot of his branded ties for several years. I don't think it's anything new in the thrifts.

I've been seeing more lately, but I'm not sure if there more of it, if I'm just noticing it more because the doofus is in the spotlight, or if the brand is just more popular in CO than in CA.

London Fog is like candy corn.  They manufactured all of it between 1962 and 1987 and every year they just roll out what's still left.  True fact* - candy corn has not been made since 1987 - the stuff you see every Halloween was made no later than that.  Same with London Fog.

*not a true fact

Despite corn being present in a plethora of common foodstuffs (and uncommon foodstuffs, as well as many non-food consumer products) no corn is used in the manufacture of candy corn.  The actual ingredients are unknown, as its' creators have all vanished, their names stricken from all written record.

also not a true fact.

As a native, I find this hypothesis equal parts infuriating and highly probable.

You know that bar down the block in your neighborhood that you all go to? And when a new guy walks in, everyones heads turn. If the guy walks into the bar, acts cool, has a few brews with the locals and eases into the convo, easy peasy. If the guy comes in like Begbie in Trainspotting with guns blazing, well, not probably the best reactions follow.

All I'm saying is maybe just take a different approach to a response and lets take another shot at helping you with your question is all. We've got collectively lots and lots of info to share that we can all benefit from - just more flies with honey and all that.

I don't know Spoo. Good description of how the group acts sometimes but man some really do pile on. I've seen it over and over. Women get blasted out of the forum quick (ebay and thrift thread), seemingly educated folks with reasoned posts get blasted as well. I didn't see anything really that was overly confrontational. I could tell @colco was going to get attacked and it was for just really stupid reasons.

Is there no moderation for the attacks that happen? @HansderHund do you moderate here or did you just start this years ago?

Other forums/groups I'm in 75% of you posting attacks would have been kicked out already. This wild west is how some of you like it?

I don't get it. Some of you same folks have been helpful and kind to me. I wonder why if you then would treat someone else so different? Is this how you'd teach your kids to act towards newbies or anyone really?

Maybe y'all should create a closed forum on someone's server somewhere if you continually want to reject most new posters to these public forums... Or post the hazing rules periodically so newbies would know what they would need to go through if they wanted to remain.

The bar analogy is pretty fitting in this case. If you walk into a new bar and ease into the conversation, you're going to be welcomed. If you fight back (verbally or physically) any time someone says something you disagree with, you're not going to be welcome.

In this case, a valid answer to the question was given in a timely manner. The answer was then rejected as not working for the one who posed the question. And ever since then, any attempt to answer his question has been met with the same derision.

You know what? None of us owe this dude anything. I know I get a bit hot headed at times online, but I don't suffer fools well.

No, many forums are not like this Fueco. They are not. It is okay to be mean because Internet? I stay because what I've learned has upped my game exponentially but some of y'all are just plain mean sometimes and I really am torn as to whether I should remain a part of this.
