You will need to go in and mark the item as unpaid. Then click "resolve issue", select "cancel transaction", chose the reason "buyer is returning item for refund". The buyer will have to accept the cancellation request within 7 days. Once they accept, you will get you fees back, if they don't accept it within 7 days, you will get your fees back at the end. If they decline NO FEES back. You don't want them to open a case.

 

No, ebay considers the return shipping to be the buyers responsibility. However, usually if I feel it was my fault that constituted a return, I offer to pay the return shipping as well.

Once I cancel the transaction does eBay refund the buyer, or do I do that manually once I receive the package back? 

I'm not refunding his shipping because it's clearly buyers remorse, but I've read enough here that regardless of who is at fault, eBay sides with the buyer, so why even bother pushing back?

I can easily resell the item.

You will send the refund manually once the package arrives....unless you are signed up for the new streamlined returns program. Not sure how that works, but for now I am avoiding it. Congrats on your first return...lol. They suck, but if handled well they can result in a happy and  faithful return customer.

+1 Its weird, but i've definiately had a person or two buy from me again, successfully, after a return.

Has anyone had some experience with this situation?

Auction shoes for shoes closed on Sunday evening. Invoice sent at that time. I was going to send an Unpaid Item Claim later today when I got the following email.

Hello,
I was planning on paying, but seen they were an 8 in length. I just got a pair of AE and they're 8.5 B's and fit great.
Plus, I would feel bad getting such a nice pair of shoes for $40. If I pay your ebay fee's, will you cancel the transaction?

And these are my problems why?

So my questions are:
1. Should I cancel it?
2. If I do cancel the auction do I do his proposed refund to me privately, just via paypal?
3. If all goes smoothly, can I do a second chance offer on the item?

I would

1. Mutually cancel the transaction through Ebay. You will get a FVF if he agrees to cancel, which sounds like he will.
2. Do a second chance offer on the item immediately. The longer you wait the less likely the buyer will buy.

Just cancel it and eBay will refund your FVF, so there's no need to take his money. Send a Second chance offer. If you feel like it, take his money as payment for him being a pain. It may be hard to get his paypal address. eBay blocks email addresses in messages now, so you need to spell it out:

email at gmail dot com.

Many thanks to both of you. I did some digging on the site and did just what you both recommended. And I asked him to be quick about resolving it so I could hopefully get them out the door to the 2nd bidder,

Waist and length are provided in the auction. I received this request:

Dear smsmith007,

can you provide photos of the pants laid out flat and to the side so I can see the length.



This made me wonder how others handle this type of thing. Do you always provide the requested information? I used to, but lately I have observed that the more ridiculous the question, the less likely the person is to bid on the item.

I don't want to be "that guy" who is impatient to have his posts answered so, would it be better for me to start my own thread so we can make this template better rather than posting it here?

 

Now here is my impatient repost:

 

I am messing with a border to separate the "who we are portion," any thoughts? I also removed the borders around the images.

Wait, could you turn the pants inside out and try them on for me? I'll go to reasonable lengths to make sure that the potential buyer is happy, but I also try to keep in mind that I'm a hobby seller and I wouldn't go to unreasonable (i.e., your person's request) lengths to try to satisfy them. You provided measurements, they can measure them on their own. If they want to know something more specific, I'd be happy to answer, but asking you to take redundant photos seems a bit much. Only my opinion though!

I'd say you can keep it going here as it seems pertinent to quite a few people. If you'd like more focused response, you can create your own thread, but it's always nice to have it in one spot to help refer people in the future! Oh, and by the way, it seems like you're doing both a great job with it and a nice service to others smile.gif

The color looks quite pink on my monitor. Try going for something a little bit darker. As super light beige tones can look very different on different monitos.

I usually make up a white lie as to why I can't accommodate their ridiculous requests. That way you don't come across as a jerk. You're out of town or the pants are already boxed. "Please refer to the measurements."
