Quick question, item showed as delivered to wrong (NYC) zip code, buyer says it is not there.  Anyone have this one happen?  Also [not] delivered lightning fast, TX to NYC in 3 days first class, also an anomaly?  My recollection with items not received that are marked as delivered is we don't have to suck it up.  Guy is asking for a refund, doesn't eBay/USPS cover this?  Not big $, but don't want to give it away if I don't have to.

Did you do it via a label? Shouldn't that be your ticket out?

I usually take pictures of the labels for items I mail out just so I can show I had the right address if it ever comes to it...

I do sometimes, but I don't have a printer or scale at home so...


I do it for almost all the flat rate stuff I send out, but if it has to be weighed, then I often pass. I guess I'd be better off just guessing sometimes and going with it.

Honestly, the $18 or so for a scale and the $30 or so I spent on a printer (NIB thrifted) has been way more useful for eBay stuff than anything else. Splurge, homey.

I have a printer. Might do the ink refill business like others here suggest. Not sure about the scale thing yet. I honestly don't get out thrifting that often so I'm okay taking packages to the post office across the street from me at work. It gives me an excuse to leave the office.


I see your point though. I could probably have spent all the extra $$ I've spent on shipping and have a scale. I can always print labels at work...

Just did. The requirement to accept returns till January 31st for holiday season sales is a bit extreme. 

 

This is an interesting change:

  • valid tracking number—meaning a tracking number with at least one carrier scan recorded and validated by eBay—must be uploaded within your stated handling time on 90% of all transactions.

No fan of the new TRS requirements to extend returns.  The defect rate could potentially harm people with very generous return policies.  Not sure I like it.

Holy schnikies, that's insane.  That's just begging for Christmas-white-elephant returns.  It goes without saying that they can take their top-rated-plus designation and shove it.

 

 

I just got the email and came in here to vent about the fact that a DSR of a 3 now will count as a defect apparently if I read this right.  If they're going to say that a 3 is a defect, they need to change the effing labeling so people realize it's really 5-stars-or-nothing.

 

Just when you think eBay can't get much worse, they find new, creative ways to be shitty...

 

edit:  to be clear, and for convenience, here is what ebay considers a defect:

  • 1, 2 or 3-star rating for item as described
  • 1-star rating for shipping time
  • Negative or neutral feedback
  • Return initiated because the item was not as described
  • An eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Purchase Protection case opened for an item not received or an item not as described
  • Seller-cancelled transaction

That's me. Most people I deal with don't know how to use the Hassle-Free return. I don't even know how as I've never returned anything. So I just tell them to open a case and I'll be happy to refund them. So because of that I apparently don't meet the requirements currently.

So I sold this item on eBay.  The seller didn't pay right away so I sent him an invoice for it and on the invoice I charged him for shipping costs to the US because his address was listed as an American one at the time.  After another day of no reply, I sent him another message saying that by day 4 I have the right to open an unpaid item case against him.  The guy pays immediately after that.  

 

But here is where he really tries to screw me: he pays by the invoice with the cheaper American shipping rate and changes his address to one in South Korea!  The item has been marked as paid by eBay but no way am I going to ship this item out at such cheap shipping rates overseas.  I sent him a message yesterday asking him to pay the difference for the shipping costs or I refund back his money and resell the item.  Still no reply.  Is there anything you guys would do differently?

Makes sense. I have seen a few sellers I made purchases from, just enter some random numbers to fulfill the tracking number requirement. Won't affect most of us, since the numbers are auto added when you print the label via the ebay shipping tool.

It's easy. Tell them to go to "Purchase History". In the drop down menu at the end of the row of the item they want to return, chose "Return this Item" and follow the prompts.
