How is this possible? Being tied to a particular brand seems awfully restrictive to me. I did not know that RL even did bespoke.
Seriously though, both of you guys are way too experienced and knowledgeable to be brand whores. You don't need to rely on some designer's vision to make yourselves look good. If you see a jacket you like, what difference does the label make?

I wouldn't label myself as a "brand whore" but if you do, I'm OK with that. As I have said many times before, show me one brand that offers almost everything under the sun as re clothing that does it as completely and as well as RL and I'll switch. I can be head-to-toe in RL and you wouldn't know unless you asked but you will pay me a compliment. There is no denying that RL has cornered the market on all things dress that can be not only high quality but frequently found at a deep discount.

Oh, well, yes, center vents are approved for trads but not for anyone else. Everyone knows that "real" dressers who get their clothes in London or Italy (or the better establishements in New York) only wear side vents.

I have several - none of which are popular:

  1. No ties with sportcoats
  2. No BDs with suits
  3. Only a white linen pocket square with suits (this is a new one)
  4. No belts. Ever.
  5. Never french cuffs - only link cuffs (other than two-button barrel)

Rules articulated here with which I both agree and have violated with, to my eye, good effect:

No navy trousers with odd jackets. Navy gabardine trousers worn with off white linen jacket (12 oz. broken herringbone), white poplin spread collar shirt worn open, navy with white dots silk square, dark brown suede tassel loafers and belt, no socks.

No black shoes with khaki pants. Khakis worn with black horse bit loafers, black calf belt, no socks, blackwatch tartan spread collar shirt, black silk knit tie, black and white herringbone tweed sport coat, green/red/yellow/blue/black paisley silk square.

I've been guilty of the navy trousers with off-white linen jacket as well.

This is turning into a confession threak. No amount of Hail Mary's will save you from black watch spread collar shirts and always going beltless though.

No French cuffs here. As much as I admire cufflinks, I can't convince myself to wear them outside of black tie.

^^ Also, I've seen Twilight and can understand why women get so much enjoyment out of it.

Hey. I'm not the guy running around in a suit with no tie.

Why can't you just pack the BlazerPants and wear the jacket?

I just find it easier to wear the suit then I don't have to carry a garment bag.
I always make sure that a large component of what I wear is a solid. Of all my odd jackets and suits only 1 isn't a solid. It's a very faint blue on navy. First suit I ever purchased.

TIp at least 20% and carry a spare rubber.

But seriously, second (or third) the BD with odd jackets.
No pen in shirt pocket. Ever.
