I never wear a hat. It takes a certain look to pull it off without looking like you're wearing a costume. Plus when you have hair like mine, you don't need no hat.

Depending on where you live and work, dressing to impress may lead to crap results. Not everyone lunches with Tom Wolfe.
No two or three of your shirt, tie and PS should have been purchased as a package deal.
More seriously, if you wear suits less than five days a week, tan pants are a staple.
Variety within a category is not inherently good or bad. As such, it's highly overrated.
If you're a leader or salesperson of some sort, I guess it's okay to look like Don Draper. If you want anyone to believe you're actually getting any work done, some(one)thing should be askew - hair, tie or sleeves.
Point collars look better on no one. They look acceptable on some.
Symetrical knots look better on African American televangelists and on no one else.
Button down collars and ties is nerdy. Might as well wear short sleeves at that point.
