You might run into a few lame ones - the big ones are about 10 weeks away once the holiday season hits...

Couple of questions:

Thoughts on the Ludlow Sport Coats? (Fit, Quality, etc)

  or

If I order via red-phone, can I apply a student discount as well?

Thank you

Depends on who you get on the other end. On my recent red phone order they wouldn't honor it, but the in-store saleswomen said they can do an in-store price adjustment reflecting the discount once i received my order.

shadykay, Ludlow sportcoats fit me pretty well, but I can't say how they would fit on you. Quality is acceptable for what they are, which is a mass-produced mall brand item. Value is a more subjective question. As j.crew keeps using nicer material and raising prices, other brands like LBM 1911 or Boglioli start becoming reasonable alternatives, as do smaller labels like Epaulet and Howard Yount, both of which will have some nice stuff this season. However, there is certainly value in the fact that they're readily available and you can wear them now, rather than spend months waiting to snag one of a small run by Epaulet or a random deal on Yoox. I usually wait until there's a j.crew sale or I get a good discount code, unless I think it's going to disappear overnight.

Basically, if you like the sportcoat and you want it now, go for it. I've not regretted buying Ludows at full retail when I need to fill that hole in my wardrobe. If I wear it enough that I wear it out, however, I usually look for a higher-end replacement.

Damn! I don't know if anyone has it/knows what I'm talking about, but I had this cable knit crewneck sweater (with shoulder buttons) in my cart, and today it was gone. Anyone have any details - maybe could find it to do an in-store search?

If you call j.crew they can do a search of all the stores and push the order through if they find the size/color combo you want.

Do you think they will do an in-store price adjustment for an online order? Wallace & Barnes item

Nice, I like all the blue tweed I'm seeing this fall. I'm amazed it fit perfectly off the rack - you must have crazy long ape-arms. In my experience they're always too long in the sleeves, kind of like the way raw denim is always too long in the inseam. You can always take them up to the correct length, but you can never let them out if the fabric isn't there to begin with.

I think it's up to the store, but generally i'd say no. If you went into the store and ordered it over the red phone you can should be able to get the discount.

I did the LiveChat earlier today and the lady searched everything and found it for me. She said that it was extremely strange they took it off the website, but she was able to sneak in an order for me. Said they only had a few left, so they might save em' for the colder months. It was the Wallace & Barnes Chunky Cable Sweater.

The 3 J. Crew stores around me are relaxed with the discount. I've used it on my camo W&B sweater, Corgi socks, Alden shoes, and further reduced items.

wj4- They had the W&B, Corgi and Aldens in store? Or did you red phone and get the discount?

Also if you don't mind me asking, what size do you wear in J Crew and what size do you wear in Epaulet? I am looking to order an epaulet shirt, but its on sale so I can't return it if it doesn't fit
