Pink bengal shrit - what tie?

Recently purchased a pink bengal shirt - this is for office wear and not over the top dandy purposes.

Was initially looking for a plain pink poplin, but decided to give this a try and now have a feeling it may not be so appropriate / easy to wear in a sober City law firm.

The tie in the picture seems acceptable (if not slgihtly too loud), but other than navy ties with discrete patterns, I can't see what else works with this shirt and a navy or grey suit.

pink striped shirt is pretty versatile, most dark colors should work

e.g. navy polka dot, navy grenadine, brown, purple..... ...geometric designs, paisleys...

I like navy with medium sized white polka dots.

A dark green tie would work from a colour perspective but I would probably just stick to navy or dark grey ties myself, especially in a law firm environment.

Thanks for all the ideas. Navy grenadine, navy with white polka and grey all seem very sensible.

Can't say I'm certain the navy and pink stripes (CT or not CT) are sober enough.

Really like the first two! Funny as I've scrolled through the Drake's sale page at least half a dozen times this week (for general inspiration, not to go with this pink shirt in particular) and nothing jumped out. But when you look at the ties on their own they are all great.

Are you working in a very conservative office, or are you just trying to keep a low profile?

Please do not wear that shirt with any of the tie choices offered by the second poster, be they from CT or elsewhere. Pink stripes on pink stripes =.

You can wear that pink bengal-striped shirt in an office without being too dandyish or over the top. But the key is restraint with the tie. I wouldn't go much bolder than a plain navy tie, or perhaps a navy tie with neat figurations in white, light blue, and pink -- be they dots, patterns, etc.

The shirt, in and of itself, is going to be pretty dandyish for most conservative offices. It doesn't need further amplification.

Both really.

The peculiar thing about bengal stripes (I have only recently beung to notice this) is that the shirts look quite muted from a distance (i.e. this looks very similar to a plain lightish pink shirt from 20 metres or).

But in order to achieve that effect, the stripes have to be a particularly bold colour in their own right, given that they are competing to blend in against white. While this works when when observed from a distance (similar to the effect of printed colour ties looking muted where there is a small white/grey recurring pattern - as in Ferragamo ties), this shirt does seem rather too bold (whatever tie is worn) if you are up close to someone.

Notwithstanding the great tie suggestions above, I may exchange the shirt this weekend for something more wearable. Thanks for all the pointers though!

.

After looking over my selections again, I am inclined to agree with you, though I think the 3rd option has so little pink in it that it could work.
