Which "Casual Shoes" to wear with Jeans?

What shoes do you guys wear with jeans for casual occasions? Dress shoes, sneakers, boots, .... or something in between?

Dress shoes - seems a bit too dressy for casual
Sneakers - what I'm currently wearing but it seems a bit college
Boots - I'm not a boot guy

What kind of casual shoes can I wear to look a step above sneakers but not so much that I'm trying hard?

Then boots are for you. Chelseas or jodhpurs are a step-up, but still casual. I personally wear dress shoes with jeans, but that is just me.

Depends entirely on the jeans but lately, I've been wearing my boots.

IMHO converse rule!! Especially black chucks because you can sneak them into "slightly more formal than casual" situations sometimes. I've got a pair of black high-top chucks with red stitching that I clean after every wear because I love them so much. I guess I dress kinda hipster but If I wear them with black jeans/blazer I always get complements from girls.

I don't really wear boots with jeans either, except for my 2 pairs of 3-eye Doc Martins (one black, one brown) look great with boot-cuts.

My APC New Cures are so damn skinny they only seem to look good with high-top chucks or my slip on vans, all my other shoes looks weird....

I picked up a pair of Diesel shoes, eggplant leather with purple accents, $50. My 2nd pair of Diesel shoes in a row, I don't know, they're so comfortable...

Who are you people and what god-awful pit of noveau hipsterdom did you come from?

Tod's driving moccasins. Sperry top-siders. Suede desert boots. Pretend you're subtle and don't buy them in ridiculous colors (read: anything but brown or black) unless you can actually pull them off. If you have to think about whether you can pull them off, you can't.

I grabbed a pair of Diesel Remys - pale green with dark green accents for about the same price and like them with boot-cut/straights but not so much with the skinny jeans. They are comfy. I got them at Journeys for $50 but now they are back up to $89

Air Force Ones?

A shoe that is very casual, but unlike regular sneakers. White on White is the classiest color way you can get. Make sure to get lows if you want a casual look, mids look too "gangster" in my eyes.

An invasion I'd call it and all of a sudden mind you.

If you're not a boot guy (odd idea to me, but whatever) then consider a more substantial loafer, such as the JM Weston 180. Of course, they're not cheap, but either are most of the jeans discussed here. Another option might be a split-toe Norwegian in a pebblegrain leather.

all good choices with jeans or casual trousers

I could replace my entire shoe collection (excluding penny loafers) with just boots and never look back

+1, although I would say that sometimes you have to watch it with dress shoes. I like the idea of retiring, say, beat-down wingtips or cap-toes from your dress wardrobe and pairing them with jeans. Not every type or condition of dress shoe works, obviously, but the ones that do look great. If you're not a boot guy, try becoming one; I suppose you could also try rubber-soled casual suede or leather oxfords.

Aside from those, they tried the "step up from sneakers" thing with the leather Steve Madden/Kenneth Cole/Sketchers bowling shoe craze and ended up committing one of the most atrocious fashion crimes of the past decade. Ain't nothing wrong with the classics...
