2012 Olympics - Uniforms

The US has been in the news for Ralph Lauren's design this year. Here are some other countries that I found, though I can't say how accurate they are. Any contributions are welcome!

Very true. Nothing instills patriotism like smartphones!

Vienna - The Austrian Olympic Committee (OOC) and Paralympic Committee (OPC) on Friday unveiled their uniforms for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The uniforms feature the colors red, dark blue, black, white, and beige, with each athlete to receive 55 items of clothing valued at 4000 euros, the Austrian Press Agency reported.
OOC Secretary General Peter Mennel said during the unveiling in Vienna that it was important for him that the athletes be dressed in high quality material and feel comfortable.
The outfits include sport and training clothing from Erima, shoes from Sioux and Salomon, jeans and handbags from Adelsberger, a smartphone from Samsung, and sunglasses from Oakley.
A total of 55 Austrian athletes are currently qualified to take part in the London Games, at 29 males and 26 females.
OOC President Karl Stoss said he hopes for a final total of around 70 athletes, with the qualification period to end on July 6.
OPC President Maria Rauch-Kallt said 32 or 33 Austrian athletes would take part in the Paralympics.
The 2012 London Games are set to run from July 27 to August 12, with the Paralympic Games set to follow from August 29 to September 9.

Kent & Curwen do a great job there. Shame about the British one, looks like hotel staff.

That's what I keep thinking. I think a lot of them look like they should be welcoming me to a resort or directing me to my window seat and taking my order for ginger ale.

Hk looks like flight attendants

France looks like they were going for some urban inspired look, but meh.

Uk looks like they forgot every iota of British style and went straight to bland.

Italy looks like what you'd find at any random sporting goods store.

I dig Jamaica's look.

Russia went with the traditional "Russian tuxedo".

S Korea looks like a Kpop band.

Spains lady looks decent, but the others are pretty bad.

Australia looks like a private middle school uniform.

Germany is half okay, half wtf. I'm not sure if I hate it or love it.

I like new zealands.

My personal favorite so far...

The Netherlands

The gradient fading into matching pants on some of the polish shirts is going a wee bit too far. I like the striped ones though. The netherlands' are cool, but didn't the US wear that exact blazer design last time around?

The german ones are strange. They're not completely bad, but they just don't come off as very German to me. Russia, for example, looks like garbage, but it's a style of eurotrash that comes off as perfectly appropriate for the Russian team to wear.

I like the Hong Kong ones.

Though I may be biased, I like Austria's. I don't get the blue, but I like it anyway. The men's jacket is a take on traditional dress (collar, buttons, length). I would honestly buy one if I could track one down. The women's jacket looks a lot like a riding jacket.

Apparently Spain has had some controversy with theirs as a Russian firm designed their uniform and it wasn't well received by the public. I suppose similar to what the US has been saying about theirs, but the American uniform looks far better than Spain's.

Australians look like they all just won the Masters. Germans are "Born to Walk Wild?" What the hell does that even mean?

Appears Spain's Olympians refuse to be seen wearing its kit.



After seeing all the others I think the Yanks are amongst the most fortunate. Even w/ the beret.

That's very very bad..

A lot of countries seem to be going with the preppy look. What's up with that? Love the Jamaican ones for having no pretence that anyone is going to wear them post-games, and also for being just plain fun. And LOL at "Russian Tuxedo"!
