I really have no idea. The outfits don't really wow me, but maybe I'm not their target audience. I really know and care very little about what's going to make the magazine editors go nuts, or what's going to make the typical American want to buy more RL. Keep in mind that SF is like 0.00000000001% of America, which doesn't always share the same aesthetic as the rest of the country. So I don't care for the outfits that much, but from a marketing/branding point of view, I really have no idea and am confident that their judgement is much better than mine.

Nothing really wrong with Db blazers with metal buttons IMO. And the logos can be plastered all over if they want to. The olympics symbol itself is full of nothing but cash-grab shit like any crap logo now anyway. The berets are still ugly as sin.

Just not feeling it, but hey different strokes...

Also I think they had some sort of similar hat in 2008 and decided to do it again, so that tells you something....

Dudes look good minus the berets.

The chicks jacket is nice, the skirt and bobby socks blow

"1980s cabin crew" is what springs to mind. I usually like RL's pastiche/whimsy when applied to uniforms (for instance, the Wimbledon ones are genius invented tradition), but this one isn't floating my boat. Still, can't imagine he'll be crying about all the free publicity...

I assumed there was a method to their madness in the wardrobe. Make the other teams let their guard down as who would take any team seriously that showed up in those clothes?
The girls should sell cookies in those getups out in front of the venues while the guys not competing at any time could help little old ladies across the streets.

Looks like bad yacht trip in the Hamptons. YUCK!

Why didn't they use the big logo?

Pretty much this. In years past I've seen the Americans turn out in scarlet red polyester blazers and white resistol cowboy hats so it's got to be an improvement over that.

@ HF do you really like the Wimbledon kits? I'm in two minds as I like the traditional prep school look up to a point, but (unliek you!) I hate contrast collar shirts and don't really like the piping on the blazers. The older green blazers were probably more traditional looking - maybe a bit safe but probably more wearable in the real world outside of Wimbledon. The women wearing men's shirts and baggy-kneed cotton chinos or old maid skirts invariably look crap.

I thought the same thing...

Good call on the girl scout reference. Didn't notice it until now.

If this were Wal-Mart or even CK or Hilfiger, I'd get the made in China bit. But RL sources plenty of things stateside or at least in Italy. Pretty low to set your countrymen up in the shit you let go for 40% off at Macy's. Might as well have put them in a purple and green striped polo, size XXL. Save the USOC money by getting all the uniforms at Goodwill or Marshall's.
