Buy sunken metal toe taps

Thread Starter

Hi,

I get my shoes fitted with toe taps for £35 per pair with John Lobb in London - result similar to picture below.

Annoyingly their cobbler has started nailing these in rather than using screws. I dont know if it's laziness or being cheap, but this has now resulted in one of the taps coming out.

I dont particularly want to buy another set as I reckon the soles only have a few months wear left in them anyway.

Does anyone know where i can buy these - or what the proper/brand name is? - I've hunted high and low but cant find them anywhere.

Many thanks in advance

Jack

Jack, have you found a supplier for the screws, or toe plates yet?

Mr Myhre, are you looking to sell or you need to find a supplier?

I am hoping to assist Jack with whatever he needs, concerning toe plates.

Thank you

Such a generous offer :slayer:

In your experience, which type of toe plates do you prefer?  Those Triumph ones? Or those lulu metal toe plates?

Leather & Grindery in New Malden (Greater London) supplies Lulu and Triumph toe plates:

The screws are are a bit more difficult to get.
Standard woodworking screws are not small enough and a model maker supply is your best bet.

Brass screws size 3/8" x 2 fit Triumph plates and single soles (Lulus might have even smaller holes.)
I got them from here:

Hope that helps!

@bengal-stripe 3/8" screws? Why not 1/4" screws be long enough?  Also, do you know if UK uses the same screw sizing system as the US, so your #2 3/8" is equivalent to #2 3/8" US? For the US system its based on fraction of an inch, #2 is 5/64" AFAIK.

@Nick V. What size screws do you use for sunken toe plates?

Vass and SC probably don't use lulu toe plates as they have similar appearance but different hole placements for sizing.
