Shirting/suiting fabric stores in the garment district NYC vs Acorn

Thread Starter
I found an old post from shirt maven suggesting the following stores to check out in the 3 hours I have to kick around the garment district in NYC. I am looking into shirting fabric for CMT tailoring and want to get the best linen fabric i can for under $30/shirt. The other option is ordering direct from Acorn.

Can anyone comment on what the shopping experience is like at any of these stores or if it is better to just order swatches direct from Acorn. I am looking for basic linen and linen blend fabrics for next summers wardrobe.

It's unlikely you will know the true quality and origin of the cloth you buy in these shops. The mark up is higher at these stores than buying from the shirt maker but the per yard price is higher for the shirtmaker as he is buying only 2 yards for your shirt but the quality you get from a shirtmaker is known and proven. You will have to buy from these shops to meet your budget but it would be a shame to go through all the effort and then the fabric not hold up after a few washings.

Shipping from England will run more than 30.00 if you order from Acorn.
