Need to buy a new suit for my wedding (Suit Supply vs Kent Wang?)

Hi everyone,

I'm going to get married in ~ 1 year but wanted to get started looking for a new suit. My budget is around $1K and was hoping for a MTM suit. Now the two best options I've come across thus far has been Suit Supply and Kent Wang. It seems like the consensus is that Kent Wang has better construction than Suit Supply, so going with KW should be the no brainer. My only problem with KW is that I don't know my measurements very well and even if he was to send me a trial suit, I wouldn't really where to make the adjustments by myself. I guess I can always take it to a tailor and ask for their opinion but I feel like their recommendations are going to be based on his own personal taste. Now because I live in Chicago, I have a Suit Supply store that is only 10 minutes away and although their construction may not be as good, I can feel confident that their in-house tailors would get my size down perfectly. Now is this a good enough reason to go with Suit Supply? Or would you guys still recommend going for the higher-quality KW suits?? Thanks so much!

Take a day trip to NYC and go see Jamison at KW (make appointment). It's your wedding, if you want the superior suit, make the effort, or find a local tailor.

Can you elaborate on this? Go see who/where? I was looking to purchase a couple of Kent Wang suits, but am not confident in my ability to tweak the sample on my own. Does Kent have a tailor in NYC that he recommends for this purpose? What's the process?

Thanks.

Brain fart -- was thinking of Howard Yount not Kent.  Jamison (member here) is in NYC.

Sorry Dood.

There is no one local in Chicago? A Mr Ned type?

You could see if KW would send you a suit, then post pics and the forum could help guide you.

SS has some great stuff higher-end stuff and, from what I understand, a pretty comprehensive MTM program.

Realistically fit is more important than construction quality. I'd vote Suit Supply. A MTM where you order adjustments is ideal for the more sophisticated members of this forum who know just what they're looking for.

If you want to go with KW, you may simply check which measurements he requires and then pay a tailor to measure you.

With the measurements professionally done, you have a better chance of getting a good fit.

Thanks everyone for your help. I decided to stop by suit supply and was very impressed by their MTM program as well as their RTW products as well. I really fell in love with their navy fabrics so I might go that route. My only concern is that I had already planned for my groomsmen to wear dark grey/charcoal suits, so would a navy suit clash too much?

No. In fact, it's probably a good idea to clearly stand out from them.

Wang has a MTM shirt program as well. Why not do that, figure out how to get your measurements correctly, then try the suit.

I haven't tried suit supply yet but I read somewhere about their comprehensive made to measure program with production housed located in Portugal, Italy, Mexico, and China.

Reviving an old thread:  I was in your shoes recently, as I just got married in early-May.  I had Paul Chang make me a completely custom suit.  His prices are rather steep, but the construction and look of the suit is through the roof.  I'd give him a call, stop by his shop (in the loop on LaSalle), and at least see what he can offer you.

I should say that had I known about Suit Supply (and had they have been open at the time), I may or may not have gone with them.  I'm going to check them out this weekend.
