Nerd seeks hairstyling help.

Well there isnt really a problem with my hairstyle, i quite like it, but it seems to grow quite fast and i like it longer.

I have medium length hair with a mullet and a fringe that now goes over my eyes. The top of my head is about 4 - 5 inches long i think.

My problem is - is that i like to spike my hair up, but recently ive been finding this harder to produce since its very hard to spike up, my hair is not the type that makes it impossible to achieve though, its very fine, much like what a typical Chinese person would have, but creating spikes seems dam right hard.

I need a little advice on what products i should use on my hair, i live in UK so please make sure it is available here. Currently i use tny and guy funky gum with tony and guy matte effect, it used to work great when my hair was slightly shorter but now when i apply the product it \\"flops back down\\"

PLease note ive always used hairspray to reinforce the desired position of my hair, because my hair always tends to have a habbit of flopping back down,

So any help on hairstyle tips would be greatly appreciated

Spikes?

Your weapon of choice is Joico's Ice Spiker.

I assume you're talking about soft spikes because hard spikes are so 2000. I have really fine hair and have been happy enough with Alberto Rework that I'm not willing to go through the trouble of trying other products. It all comes down to the styling, though: you need to figure out how to apply the product, when to use water, and the rest of the procedure.

I use the cheapest stuff I can find: Suave, Extreme Hold 10, Wal-Mart, $1.46!

I am sure you have Wal-Marts too, no? Make sure it's wet when you apply. Rub the gel through your fingers first, so they are covered, and then rub it all into your hair. When the gel is thoroughly mixed in you hair, THEN you can begin to style however you want. Add extra gel as necessary, and use water where you need it.

Hope all works for you, good luck, don't stab anyone

Whatever you do, don't spike it. I used to, and I wish I never did. If you want to do something interesting, an inexpensive beeswax based product like Headwear Strung Out Styling Goo ($3 at the local Wally World) can give you some good texture and soft hold. Just rub some in your palms and go to work. I personally think you should get a different haircut. You could probably rock the texturized short hair with your hair type.
