One year anniversary of the Lokomotiv disaster... what a tragedy. Has there been any change in Russia since then regarding air travel?

Sucks to BU. Well, at least now it does, with all this out. Wonder why none of the college basketball or football programs are held to the same accountability...probably because they make the schools, and surrounding areas, millions of dollars.

Shot from one of my games this week, looks like it may be the only hockey I see live for a while:

I'd just like to mention Bettman and the owners can suck it. How many players are going to sign full-year contracts without out clauses if the lockout ends?

Made the mistake of venturing into HFBoards' lockout discussion... why do I do this to myself?

DO NOT GO THERE!

As juvenile as the Styleforum NHL thread gets (and, Lord knows, I contribute mightily to some of the crap in here) it's practically like reading Ovid compared to that armpit known as HFBoards.

Seriously. The magic word of the day there is "concessions."

The logic there is: since the NHLPA can end a lockout by caving to the NHL's proposal, the NHLPA is at fault for the lockout. Furthermore, since the NHL has made concessions in regard to splitting percentages and the NHLPA has not, the NHLPA is even more at fault. Fehr sucks and the NHLPA is bad because they are not making concessions.

Nevermind that the league's initial offer was such a ridiculous proposal that of course they could shift a few percentage points the other way and claim they are "making concessions" in further bargaining. Perhaps the NHL tabled an obscene first offer in order to be able to say they've made concessions and therefore are negotiating in good faith? Perhaps this was done to help sway public opinion which would naturally be against them in a lockout situation? Like what happens in virtually every damned collective bargaining situation, ever? Holy crap, its like the league even knew that some guy named Fehr who has a reputation as a hardliner would be negotiating for the NHLPA and wouldn't likely budge from his initial position so they could wave this fact around as they make their vaunted concessions?!

Nevermind that all this hubbub is all about economic factors, which are the last things that get tackled in collective bargaining since they will always be the biggest sticking point. Forget every other aspect of collective bargaining and focus on the rhetoric, I guess.

I get the fans as stakeholders have a primary concern of having the lockout end quickly, but seriously. I'm not saying any one side is right - I don't know enough about the particulars of the negotiations to make that judgement - but "NHLPA is greedy and bad because Fehr won't make any concessions and they should just cave so we can watch hockey again" is so dumb it hurts.

Regardless of who anybody supports in this fiasco, there will at the end of the day be one outcome.

The owners will get what they want. Now whether it works or they discover in a few years they didn't think it through well enough like this last CBA remains to be seen.

It will end 50/50 with some sort of rollback that is probably easier to take than the 24% that happened last time. Maybe it is spread out over two seasons etc. And it could end up being a much longer deal - say 10 years.

The only debate now is whether this ends by US Thanksgiving or we scrub the season. Is there an over/under for that somewhere?

The season is gone, I'm not holding out any hope for it.

I have already given up on it. I wasn't very hopeful during the summer, but now that they're locked out, I don't think we'll have a season.

Good news for me: The Habs were going to suck fiercely this year. They probably still will next year, but at least Gomez will be a year closer to retiring.

In breaking news...Stanley C. Panther applies for jobless benefits after being laid off the day before.

Other than that nothing new to report on Day 4 of the lockout
