Good site for shemaghs/keffiyehs?

Tried gr8gear, but their prices and shipping tend to be a little higher than most. Are there any good sites for this that offer better prices or at least better selection?

No, Arethusa, don't do it!

I was gonna say urbanoutffiters.com just to discourage you, but

I'd watch out Googling around for one, though - if you're not careful you might wind up on some government watch list.

Also, I'm confused - was UO selling a shemagh that had a "give peace a chance" slogan on it? If so, what offended people - the shemagh or the slogan? Regardless, I'm kind of suprised it became such a widespread trend, given the negative association it carries for many people.

I'm also kind of surprised you're after one - you don't seem to be one for trends like this, especially one that by most accounts is nearing over-saturation...

I didn't realize it was a trend until I started googling around (you can never be on too many watch lists). It certainly isn't a trend where I am, at the very least, and I have no particular interest in following it. But I don't really see any point in avoiding something I like just because it's popular.

I saw a few hilariously whiny blog posts about The New Antisemitism with mentions of UO, but that was about it. They were, from what I can tell, selling the same keffiyehs as everyone else (all the designs seem to be identical, so I'm guessing there aren't many companies doing this, if it's even more than one) with the addition of one with peace symbols on it and one with skulls (which I guess means you either love Morphine Generation or hate Jews, apparently).

hah, here is a trend that I was way ahead of - I was wearing a kafiyah as a scarf 25 years ago. I actually picked one up for my wife as a scarf a few weeks ago in Dubai, a cashmere one, in cream color with embrodered blue bands in a flowery patern. meant to be worn by men as a head covering, it makes an excellent scarf.

but those college kids who wear them now jsut make me sick - its like those suburban kids who wear their pants baggy and around their knees. is there no better trend for them to copy than jailhouse whores?

I love giant, oversized scarves that you can wrap around a few million times, so I actually like shemaghs, but I usually don't wear mine because I could be potentially sending a message I don't want to be sending. I'd like a shemagh-sized scarf in an interesting pattern, though.

Well, I suppose it helps to not be bothered by loose intellectual association with the Palestinian solidarity movement, but I'm mostly not interested in wearing it politically, and I don't really like the popular red and white. I really like the black and tan (hope that pissed you off, Connie) pattern gr8gear has here, though:

From here, the tan/black one looks like a stained white/black one. But at least it's unusual; all I see out are the white/black versions.

I'd like a shemagh-sized scarf in an interesting pattern, though.
I dunno what the shape is, exactly, but I almost bought this houndtooth shemagh-ish before Oak sold out of it. Maybe they'll re-stock.

Another option is the heart-patterned t-shemagh from Built by Wendy.

UO removed it because the keffiyeh has become a symbol of the anti-Israeli movement in the US.

Odds are, people won't look at you and say "Now that guy is pulling FR's chain", they will think you support the PLO or Hamas.
