at one point I wanted Canada to slay the dragon, but then I thought about a Canada Vs. Japan Gold medal match - that would probably suck.

hopefully the Japan Vs. USA finals will be as good as that worldcup match.

I inlove.gif Alex Morgan

waiting for Hope Solo to distinguish herself for something other than bitching at people on Twitter

Alex Morgan is cute and also apparently clutch as a motherfucker. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

epic performance by christine sinclair. 3 goals in the biggest game of her life - THAT is clutch. if it weren't for questionable officiating we wouldn't be talking about a lucky header from morgan.

also that haughty little Russian gymnast finally got her gold wink.gif

So the ball bounced off Morgan's head while she was looking the other way and somehow ended up in the goal? confused.gif

a header in the 120th minute with literally seconds left to play after making it to extra time on the good grace of getting a questionable penalty kick call which itself came from a questionable free kick call? yes, lucky header. confused.gif

a bit of sour grapes here though, canada has been sucking all olympics and i was hoping the performance of a lifetime from sinclair would be enough to win. guess not.

I was disappointed how it shook out but I;m even more disappointed in the reaction of the players and the fans. Saying stuff like the ref was going to "go to sleep wearing her USA jersey" is just pure bush league, sour grapes crap. If you're a professional athlete, you don't say that. Tancredi and Sinclair were both spewing total garbage after the game. You gave up the lead THREE TIMES, girls. I understand the officiating sucked, but it would have been a non issue if they had defended their own end better.

As proud as I am of Canada, our national inferior complex often annoys the hell out of me, not to mention our tendency to whine when things don't go our way.

Women's soccer is like men's softball in Australia, so even if we had a decent team, we wouldn't be able to see much of it. I'm glad it's held in higher esteem in North America.

I was shocked to see the Olympics have men's field hockey. No offense, just didn't know such a thing existed.

See, back home, that shit is played almost as much as Swimming is, so I've seen a lot of it. Australia does really well at the sports that America doesn't try.

We're fucked when America tries though.
