You're right. But the back part of the trousers is pulled upwards ever so slightly. So the detachable combi is optimal because it simulates a fishtail and everything is balanced. And since my tailor suggested that option, why not?

Could you post a photo of it? I am having a hard time visualizing this attachment.

I have none unless we're talking about women and its the opposite that I'm imagining!

I am switching to suspenders as well. I cannot believe I used to wear belts!  My primary reasons for switching are:

 

1. Comfort.

2. Looks. 

NEVER, never use clip-on suspenders!! No male over 12 ( years old) should be wearing clip-on suspenders.

I had a vintage Denman & Goddard suit with the same arrangement plus side adjusters - very convenient. Never come across it since, though.
