What Windows 8 product? There is obviously a wide variety of machines from any number of companies to choose from. They very greatly in terms of quality. Do you have one in mind? I find Apple's Laptops are some of the best out there, but there certainly are contenders running Windows worth checking out.

EDIT: FWIW, I had a couple small problems with my Macbook over the years but Apple's tech people have been good to me. Once exchanged a battery, well out of warranty, for free. It's experiences like that which keep me loyal.

FYI guys, FRY's is selling old model of the iMac at clearance prices. $1000 for the 27 inch and $400 for the 20 inch. Amazing steals. If I wasn't still tight from the expenses of my move, I would snatch up one the 27 inch models.

Especially if you want to wall mount it, as the new 27" don't seem to be VERSA mountable.

It seems that they're all sold out? It's not available in any stores

I didn't realize you could wall mount the old ones. Always thought that base was stuck on.

It really is a good deal. You are missing out on some spec upgrades, USB 3 and the new less reflective screen, but otherwise it's a sound investment.

Last I looked it's available in a few. The store here in Austin Texas is sold out, but they have stock in one of the Dallas stores. Unfortunately, you can't order online. I would keep looking around if you are interested. Maybe get a friend to proxy it.

not really a mbp retina questions but...

Old laptop is dying, I can probably make it limp along for a while but its pretty beat up and not going to last that much longer.

So... Buy a refurbished 2012 MBA 13" now, or would it be worth it to try and wait for the 2013?

Rumor is that they're not going to implement the Retina screens in the MBA's, but they are going to add Intel's Haswell chipset, which should significantly speed up the graphics. I'm hoping that they at least bump up the screen to 16x9, but we'll see. My advice with Apple is always to wait if you can.

agreed,

apple usually updates a product or product line once a year so if you need something specific check last time the had a new line and weigh against how long until update

USB 3 is only good if you already own or are about to buy USB 3 devices
